Tata has launched the facelifted Altroz in India at Rs 6.89 lakh (ex-showroom), with a minor premium over the pre-facelift. Tata has not just made the hatchback look sharper now, made the cabin a premium cabin, but also altered its powertrain options slightly. While its versatile and multiple options are good to have, it might get confusing for you to pick the right one!
To help with the dilemma, we have listed down all the powertrain options of the facelifted Altroz along with the variants they are offered with for you to get a clear idea of the engine and gearbox option that is ideal for you.
Before getting into the variant-wise options, let’s take a look at the powertrains in detail:
|

1.2-litre petrol+CNG |
1.5-litre diesel engine |

Key Takeaways:
A 5-speed MT is standard across trims
Both diesel and CNG miss out on automatic options. This could be a big miss and might push away buyers who want the convenience of two pedals
Gets a new 5-speed AMT, making automatic more accessible
6-speed DCT has been carried over

Check out the variant that might be best suited for you if you want a specific powertrain:

Key Takeaways:
No automatic options are available with the entry-level variant, and no manual option can be had with the top-spec trim. The topmost variant gets only one option.
Both diesel and CNG options are not available with the top-spec trim
AMT range starts from the Pure variant and goes up to the Creative S
DCT can be had only with the three top-spec trims
The Creative S becomes the only variant to offer all the options

You could get the engine option and the gearbox you want, but then you realise that the combination cannot be had with the variant you desire. The Altroz’ petrol engine is an option you can’t go wrong with, it provides the engaging experience of a manual while providing the convenience of an automatic.
Kudos to Tata for providing a more affordable automatic option, but the absence of the manual in the top-spec trim feels like a miss since the top-spec trim gets many premium features like a 10.25-inch digital driver display, an air purifier and connected car tech.
The Tiago and Tigor CNG already get an AMT with the eco-friendly powertrain, and offering it with the Altroz CNG would have been ideal. Moreover, the diesel engine, which is tried and tested and might be the more fuel-efficient option when compared to the petrol, should have gotten the automatic.

That being said, we should not take anything away from Tata for offering so many different powertrain options, something that no other rival is doing currently. However, a few tweaks here and there and more accessibility of certain gearbox options across trims would have helped the buyers even more!
Now, if you have decided on a powertrain but want to check out which variant is best for you, then here’s a detailed report on the variant-wise features.
