The Hyundai Exter is the first true rival to the Tata Punch if you discount the Citroen C3, which is marketed as a hatchback and not a micro SUV, unlike the former two products. The Exter has a similar price, which actually ranges within the ballpark of the Punch’s prices, but offers so much more than the long standing micro SUV does. So without further milking that narrative, here’s a deep dive into all the details of the Hyundai Exter using 10 images:
The boxy elements continue in profile and can be seen on the flared fenders and squared-out wheel arches, which are joined by the side sill. It gets snazzy looking 15-inch alloy wheels and the middle part around the front door line looks like it has been sculpted because of the flared fenders on either side. You also get a black garnish on the thick C-pillar of the micro SUV.

The tail lights take inspiration from the DRLs ahead and get a similar treatment with the H-shaped motifs inside, while are connected via gloss black plastic trim. The bumper also gets a silver skid plate to further beef up its already heavy stance.
The Hyundai Exter is offered in six mono and three dual tone shades. The former includes two new hues - Cosmic Blue and Ranger Khaki, while the rest include Starry Night, Fiery Red, Atlas White, and Titan Grey. The dual tone options comprise Cosmic Blue, Ranger Khaki and Atlas White with an Abyss Black roof shade.
Things are rather similar on the inside of the Hyundai Exter as you’ll be welcomed by a carbon copy of the Grand i10 Nios’ cabin, save for the new themes on offer. You get an all-black hue, which is contrasted by either Silver, Light Sage or Cosmic Blue inserts.
However, don’t let the cabin layout fool you into thinking that its features list is identical as well, because the Hyundai Exter actually packs quite a few features, some of them even segment-firsts. The latter includes a sunroof and front and rear dash cam.

As for the rest of the list, it is made up of equipment like an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digitised driver’s display, cruise control, automatic climate control, a wireless phone charger and keyless entry with push button start.
Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS with EBD and parking sensors, while equipment like electronic stability control, hill-hold assist vehicle stability management are optional. It also packs a rear defogger, automatic headlamps, ISOFIX mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system, IRVM, and rear parking camera with audio guide in its higher variants.
Features aside, the Exter borrows its powertrains from the Grand i10 Nios as it is - 83PS/114Nm 1.2-litre petrol engine, teamed with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. It also gets a CNG kit which has a reduced output of 69PS and 95.2Nm in CNG mode. Fuel efficiencies stand at 19.4kmpl for the petrol-MT, 19.2kmpl for the petrol-AMT and 27.1km/kg for the CNG-MT.
