The Hyundai Exter is considered an alternative to the Maruti Swift owing to their similar price range. While the Exter is classified as a micro SUV and the Swift as a midsize hatchback, and both cars are powered by a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. We recently tested the real-world performance of both the Exter and the Swift, and here’s a comparison of their acceleration and braking capabilities.
Before getting onto the results, first let’s take a look at their engine specifications:

While both the Exter and Swift are powered by a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, the former has a 4-cylinder engine, whereas the latter has a 3-cylinder engine configuration. Despite this difference, the two cars are quite close in terms of power and torque, with the Exter enjoying a slight advantage of 1 PS and 2 Nm. Both models offer the option of a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT.

In the 0-100 kmph sprint, the Exter was almost 2 seconds quicker, and it also completed a quarter mile a second sooner and at 1 kmph higher speed compared to the Swift. When it comes to braking, the Exter outperformed the Swift, stopping 8 metres shorter than the Maruti hatchback. It's important to note that the Swift's braking performance was tested on wet surfaces, which certainly influenced the results. Both cars feature disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear.
