In terms of features, equipment such as the infotainment system, sunroof, climate control, and wireless phone charging are shared by both models. However, the Altroz facelift goes a step further with a digital driver’s display, connected car technology, and a 360-degree camera system. Additionally, the Altroz comes standard with six airbags, while the Punch offers dual front airbags only. Both the cars have previously scored a five-star rating in the GNCAP crash tests.

Powertrain Specifications

The Altroz facelift is offered with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The former puts out 88 PS and 115 Nm, while the diesel unit delivers 90 PS and 200 Nm. You can also configure the petrol unit with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Transmission options for the petrol include a 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic, whereas the diesel is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox only.

In contrast, the Tata Punch is available only with the 88 PS/115 Nm 1.2-litre petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. Like the Altroz, the Punch can also be had with a factory-fitted CNG kit.

Verdict

Although the Altroz facelift commands a premium over the Punch, it still comes across as a more complete package. This is mainly due to the added cabin space, a richer feature set, and the option of a diesel engine. However, what works in the Punch’s favour is its SUV-like form factor, which could be a deciding factor for buyers who prefer a more muscular appearance.
