Weird Flex: Here’s A Vespa SXL 125 Doppelganger From China

Chinese automotive manufacturers tend to launch vehicles that are basically clones of popular models from established international manufacturers. Sometimes these Chinese models are exact replicas, while other times it results in a botched up job. Well, here we’ve got an exact copy of the popular Vespa SXL 125, although this Chinese scooter is electric.

Called the Ruiqi WSP, it bears an uncanny resemblance to the Italian retro scooter from every angle. Be it the simple rounded fascia with the sharp headlamp, or the arched side cover, every body panel on this Chinese scooter is designed straight off the Vespa SXL 125.

Well, this is where all the common aspects between the two scooters end, as the WSP is powered by a 2kW motor that produces a peak torque of 110Nm, paired to two 60V30Ah battery packs. This allows the electric scooter to offer a top speed of 65kmph with a range of 75km. The Vespa SXL 125 on the other hand is powered by a 124.45cc single cylinder engine that produces 9.92PS.

The WSP is underpinned by telescopic fork and a monoshock, and is anchored by a fore disc brake and aft drum brake. The Vespa is suspended on a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers, while braking duties are shared by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear.

Price for the Ruiqi WSP ranges between USD 358 to 485 (equivalent to Rs 28,500 to Rs 38,600), as it is currently on sale only on a wholesale online channel. The Vespa SXL 125 is priced at Rs 1,33,403, ex-showroom Delhi, and competes with the Yamaha Fascino 125 and Suzuki Access 125.
