The River Indie electric scooter recently got an updated version, priced at Rs 1.43 lakh (ex-showroom). The refreshed model introduces two new color options and features a chain drive system for improved performance and lower maintenance costs. While the overall design remains familiar, the update brings key mechanical enhancements that make the scooter more cost-effective and easier to maintain.

A standout feature of the updated River Indie is its new chain drive system, paired with a single-speed gearbox. This change simplifies the scooter’s design, making it easier to maintain and enhancing the durability of the entire final drive system. The chain drive also reduces the frequency of servicing, which is a significant improvement for owners.

Colors

The updated River Indie is now available in two new color options: Winter White and Storm Grey. It will also continue to be offered in the previously available colors: Monsoon Blue, Summer Red, and Spring Yellow. All color variants are paired with glossy black panels, giving the scooter a dual-tone finish.

Battery & Motor

The River Indie is powered by a 4kWh Li-ion battery pack, located under the floorboard. The manufacturer claims the battery can be charged up to 80% in just 5 hours using the standard charger that comes with the scooter. The Indie offers an IDC (Indian Driving Conditions) range of up to 161km on a full charge when ridden in Eco mode.

The scooter is equipped with a mid-mounted electric motor that produces 6.7kW (9PS) and 26Nm of torque

Another major update this time around is the introduction of a dedicated reverse mode button. This was added based on feedback from existing owners and likely future customers. Also, it comes with three riding modes: Eco, Ride, and Rush.

Design

The design of the River Indie remains unchanged. It retains its bold, muscular bodywork and distinctive twin-pod LED headlights. The scooter features a chunky seat, hard mounts for panniers, crash guards, a grab rail, and alloy wheels with thick tires. These design elements contribute to its rugged look and make it stand out from other e-scooters on the market. It gets 14-inch wheels and fold out footpegs for the rider as well.

Storage

The River Indie continues to get the massive 43 litre under seat storage and an additional 12 litres of storage in the form of a glovebox on the front apron. Combined, you get a total of 55 litres of lockable storage with this scooter. The floorboard is large and flat too, allowing you to store large items there.

Availability & Rivals

The River Indie is currently only available in a few cities such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Coimbatore. It takes on rivals like the Ather Rizta, Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, the Ola S1 line-up and the recently launched Hero Vida V2 Range.
