BYD has been on a roll in India! After launching the Seal sedan last year, the automaker has launched the Sealion 7 SUV this year. While the Seal has a more sportier charm to it, the Sealion 7 brings in more sophistication. The Seal has already attracted plenty of customers in India, and the Sealion 7 will hope to follow the footprints while offering something larger and more premium. So what new does the Sealion 7 bring to the table? Which EV out of the two should you consider? Let’s find that out:
Beginning this comparison with the most important aspect, pricing! Here’s a detailed look at the price range:
Car |
BYD Seal |
SYD Sealion 7 |
Price (ex-showroom) |
Rs 41 lakh to Rs 53 lakh |
Rs 48.9 lakh to Rs 54.9 lakh |
As seen in the table above, the Seal’s entry-level pricing is much lower. However, prices for the top-spec variants are comparable with a difference of around Rs 2 lakh only. So, why is the entry-level Seal cheaper? And, what’s the difference between their top-spec variants? Let’s take a look:

As seen in the table above, the Sealion 7 is clearly the larger car in every dimension. While the difference is not a lot in terms of length, width and wheelbase, there is a significant difference between their height.

As you can see above, both interiors are loaded to the brim with features. The only key difference here is that the Sealion 7 comes with 2 extra airbags.
The major difference is in terms of the interior feel. The Seal feels more sporty, while the Sealion 7 has a more premium and spacious vibe inside the cabin. The materials used in the Seal feel like they belong to a sports car, while the Sealion 7 sports plenty of soft-touch leather finishes throughout.
Both cars come with an all-black interior, complemented with tastefully curated ambient lighting. The Sealion 7 gets a chunkier four-spoke steering wheel, while the Seal’s steering wheel has a sportier appeal to it.

The Seal comes with two battery packs, which include a smaller 61.44 kWh battery that is not offered with the Sealion 7. Due to the smaller battery pack option, the entry-level Seal turns out to be much more affordable. The Premium and Performance variants come with almost similar specifications. Both make the same power, but the Sealion 7 generates 20 Nm more torque. The Seal is the clear winner in terms of performance and should be your pick if going “slightly” quicker matters to you. The Seal’s Premium variant offers the greatest claimed range out of all the powertrains.
Both the cars are inseparable in terms of features, and offer a striking design. It is the Sealion 7 which has a greater road presence overall if owning a larger car is your priority. The Sealion 7 also offers a more spacious rear seat and feels more premium overall. However, if you want something sportier, quicker and with a greater claimed range, then the Seal emerges a clear winner. If you have a family of 5 fairly large-sized adults then the Sealion 7 should be considered. The Seal is catered more towards a 4-member family. It all comes down to your individual preferences of owning something premium vs sporty! The best thing would be to take your family to the nearest BYD dealership and experience both cars in person.
Till then, let us know which car you are more inclined towards based on specifications in the comments below.
