The Audi A6 e-tron concept was earlier showcased back in 2021 at the Auto Shanghai trade fair. Three years later, Audi has now launched the A6 e-tron in Sportback and Avant body styles along with S6 e-tron models based on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform and will be the first models to get a flat floor concept.
Scheduled to go on sale internationally from September 2024, let's take a look at its exterior, interior, features and powertrain options on offer. Notably, with the new nomenclature of Audi, the odd numbers are going to be used for ICE models and the even numbers for its EVs.
With respect to the current-gen design language of the German manufacturer, the Audi A6 e-tron series gets a cleaner and bolder look with slim DRLs and a wide grille which makes it distinctive looking to anything else on the market. The EV specific enclosed grille is reminiscent to other e-tron models with a chunky gloss-black bumper element down below housing the air-intakes for the battery and conceals the ADAS sensors and radar seamlessly into the design.
Moving to the side profile, the A6 e-tron gets a stretched profile with fender haunches accentuating the look of the EV. The black insert on the side panels indicate the positioning of the battery and gives the A6 e-tron a dynamic presence on the road. It features sporty looking aero design 19-inch alloy wheels (20 and 21-inch alloy wheels limited to the S6 e-tron models). The Audi A6 e-tron’s dimensions are 4,928 mm in length, 1,923 mm in width, 1,527 mm in height and gets a wheelbase of 2,946 mm.
The rear looks clean and chic with an LED strip running across the width of the car. The main highlight of the rear section of the A6 e-tron has got to be the illuminated Audi logo. The A6 e-tron sportback gets a lip spoiler integrated in the boot which adds to the sporty character of the EV. A large rear diffuser situated down below in the bumper further adds to its dynamism.
The Audi A6 e-tron models are available in eight exterior colour hues to choose from namely: Magnetic gray solid, Glacier white metallic, Typhoon gray metallic, Mythos black metallic, Plasma blue metallic, and Malpelo blue metallic for the A6 e-tron models. Siam beige metallic and Daytona gray pearl effect are exclusive to the S6 e-tron models.
Audi’s signature LED lighting upfront and its innovative lighting technology with second gen OLED rear lights provide multiple lighting elements giving the A6 e-tron a unique character.
The interiors of the Audi A6 e-tron have been revised in line with the current gen models with a wraparound functional driver centric dashboard layout. The interiors feature a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system running on Android OS with wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This system further incorporates voice commands and AI assistance such as built-in ChatGPT.
Additionally, there is a 11.9-inch digital driver’s display with the option of a heads-up display with augmented reality graphics. Furthermore, in-car entertainment has been prioritized by the inclusion of a 10.9-inch front passenger display. There is an option of camera based ORVMs with the screens situated on the interior door panels. The dashboard also conceals dynamic ambient lighting running across the interior.
Audi has also incorporated a smart panoramic glass roof with switchable transparency which minimizes direct sunlight by changing the opacity of the glass. A powerful 830 watts 20-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround sound music system is also offered.
In terms of safety, the A6 e-tron is equipped with multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, 360 degree camera with front and rear parking sensors, hill hold and hill start assist, and a full ADAS suite including lane keep assist, emergency braking, collision avoidance system, blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.
For the battery pack, there will be two options offered in the Audi A6 and S6 e-tron models. The base RWD variant will come with an 83 kWh battery that has a WLTP-claimed range of 610 km. The other variants will feature a larger 100 kWh battery, providing a range between 647 km and 756 km, depending on the specific model.
The Sportback and Avant models of the Audi A6 e-tron, get equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack producing 367 PS. With this setup, the A6 e-tron Sportback gets a WLTP claimed range of up to 756 km and the A6 e-tron Avant gets up to 720 km of range. It can accelerate from standstill to 100 kmph in 5.4 seconds and has a limited top speed of 210 kmph.
The S6 e-tron models offer even more power, equipped with Quattro AWD and producing 370 kW (496 PS), which can be boosted to 405 kW (550 PS) with launch control. 0-100 kmph comes up in 3.9 seconds, while it can reach up to 240 kmph.
The 100 kWh battery supports up to 270 kW fast charging, allowing it to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 21 minutes. According to Audi, you can add a range of 310 km in just 10 minutes of charging. The onboard AC charging speed is 11 kW, but there will also be an option for 22 kW charging.
The new Audi A6 e-tron will be available to order globally from September and is expected to enter the Indian shores sometime in 2025. It will carry a premium over the current Audi A6, which is priced from around the Rs Rs. 64.41 lakh to Rs 70.79 Lakh (ex-showroom) mark. It will rival other premium luxury EV sedans like the BMW i5.
