Tata has introduced the Curvv EV on our shores from Rs 17.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It is positioned as a premium mass market EV and is available in three variants and 5 colour options to choose from. While the Curvv EV does most of the things right and ticks the essential boxes, it would be interesting to see if the rear seat experience matches up to the same level or not.
Let’s find out:
For perspective, let’s understand that the Curvv EV is larger than the Nexon EV and has a 62 mm longer wheelbase. Also, its pricing is comparable to the popular compact SUVs such as Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos which means the cabin space should also be similar if not more.
While the wheelbase is longer than that of the Nexon EV, the comfort level and space remains similar. The true benefit of the Curvv EV’s larger size vs Nexon is seen in the boot space increase. The headroom is sufficient for passengers up to the height of 5ft 8 inches, but if you are taller than that you will feel that the roof is too close to your head. The knee room, and underthigh support could have also been better.
The width of the seats also make it best suited to two rear seat occupants and the difference when compared to the Nexon EV is marginal. So if you have tall members in your family the Curvv EV may not be ideal for you.
The Curvv EV might not be the most spacious SUV in its segment, but it sure is practical with amenities such as 45W USB type-C chargers (1 x each row), type-A USB (1 x front row), rear AC vents, rear armrest, and two-step rear seat recline adjustment.
The Curvv EV is Tata’s first SUV-coupe, placed in one of the most popular and busiest segments in India. Its USP is its coupe design which sets it apart from other conventionally styled SUVs, and Tata has loaded it to the brim with features thereby positioning it as a premium mass market EV. It is available with multiple powertrains and offers a claimed range of up to 585 km. To know more about the Tata Curvv EV, check out our first-drive review of the same.
The Tata Curvv EV is priced from Rs 17.49 lakh to Rs 21.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The pricing keeps it on par with the MG ZS EV and Mahindra XUV400. It is also an EV alternative to compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. In the future it will rival the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki eVX.
