Tata Motors has confirmed through a teaser that the Tiago NRG will be its next model to offer a CNG option. The eco-friendly hatchback is expected to launch soon and will be the third CNG offering from Tata after the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG. Like its stablemates, you can expect both the XT and fully-loaded XZ+ trim to get this alternative fuel option.

The Tiago NRG, with its rugged styling touches, is essentially the cross-hatch version of the standard model. It will get the same 1.2-litre petrol engine from the standard car developing 73.4PS and 95Nm in CNG mode. A 5-speed manual is likely to be the only transmission of choice for the CNG variants. The CNG tank with a water capacity of 60 litres will be placed in the boot, taking up most of the space.

We expect Tata to offer the CNG option in the Tiago NRG’s fully loaded trim. So you can expect it to boast equipment like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, keyless entry with push button start, a digitised instrument cluster, and a Harman sound system. Safety kit includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and parking sensors.

The Tiago NRG is currently priced between Rs 6.5 lakh and Rs 7.45 lakh (ex-showroom). Going by the standard car’s CNG variants, you can expect the NRG to command a premium of around Rs 90,000. It will be a more rugged looking alternative to models like the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG and Celerio CNG.
