Royal Enfield has blessed the 650 twins with several interesting and exquisite details as part of the celebrations for its 120-year anniversary

In a fitting tribute to its rich 120-year history, Royal Enfield unveiled the limited 120th Year Anniversary Edition of the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT650 at this year’s EICMA show in Milan, Italy. There’s a little more to these bikes than just a snazzy paintwork. Here’s what makes them special:

Hand-made goodness:

One aspect of the motorcycles that’s instantly noticeable is the brass badges, which aren’t your regular factory-made units. Royal Enfield has collaborated with Tamil Nadu’s Kumbakonam-based ‘Sirpi’ (sculptor) Senthil family who have been practising the wax-casting of bronze for generations. The fully handcrafted 3-D badges are further complemented by hand-painted gold pinstripes on the fuel tank. These stripes are done by highly skilled artisans to justify the bikes’ exclusivity.

Stealthy yet extravagant:

You see, regular variants of the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 or the Continental GT 650 have either single or dual-tone paint finishes in conventional colours or are finished in shiny-looking chrome. But for the 120th Year Anniversary Editions, Royal Enfield gave the twins a glossy, dark-grey-ish chrome finish, called a ‘Trivalent graphite chrome’. It’s also an environmentally friendly process compared to the conventional chrome finish. The side panels also get a similar finish, whereas the rest of the motorcycle is finished in black. The powertrain and the exhausts get a matte black finish, whereas the black spoke wheels get arc-shaped gold rim stickers.

Pre-loaded with accessories:

The anniversary editions come factory-fitted with a compact engine guard, touring mirrors (bar-end mirrors for the Continental GT 650), flyscreen, aluminum sump guard, heel guards, and a handlebar brace pad for the Interceptor 650. Oh, and the twins also get a plush brown-coloured seat cover with premium stitching. It goes well with the matching brown handlebar grips.

Availability:

Every single anniversary edition motorcycle will carry a unique serial number on the fuel tank, and only 480 examples will be made. Out of this, 120 units are allocated for the Indian market (60 units of the Interceptor 650 and 60 Continental GT 650 bikes), whereas the rest are meant for Europe, Americas, and South-east Asia (each market getting 120 units).

Enthusiasts can purchase the bike on Royal Enfield’s official website. You’ll have to fill in the registration form with all the necessary details, and will receive a unique code, which will be your ticket to the sale window that opens on December 6 at 7pm. Make sure you keep yourself logged in on the same day, though, as the availability is valid only until the (very limited) stocks last.
