The bike has been spotted testing for the first time ever wrapped in camouflage

Just a few days after KTM unveiled the 2022 390 Adventure globally, a new, seemingly more rally-friendly 390 Adventure has been spotted testing for the first time ever, and that too in India.

One of our biggest gripes while riding the KTM 390 Adventure was its off-road ergonomics while standing to tackle rough terrain. And by the looks of it, this could be a more focused variant of the bike (How does 390 Adventure Rally sound?) fixing the aforementioned issue with a taller handlebar that's easier to hold on to while standing up on the bike.

One look at the test mule, and it seems...well, more or less, the same. The body panels, engine casing, seat, and even alloys, all look identical to the current KTM 390 Adventure. What’s different, you ask? Well, its face, to begin with.

Look closely, and you can clearly see the front end to be significantly different from the 390 Adventure. It is seemingly taller and packs a huge transparent windscreen (extending till the fork), both giving solid Dakar Rally-type vibes. Moreover, if you look at the bike in the background, it even gets a different exhaust, visibly similar to the Husqvarna Svartpilen 250. However, we believe it could be an accessory to bump up the performance.

The revised fascia also houses a higher-set instrument cluster (usually where Dakar riders put their navigation equipment). And finally, the taller handlebar, coupled with the more rugged block-pattern tyres, makes it more suitable for offroading. Oh and yes, there’s no bash plate here, but that’s something we believe KTM might offer in the production version.

These aside, the engine remains the same 373cc unit as the 390 ADV. Expect power figures (43.5PS and 37Nm) to remain unchanged as well. However, we will love it if KTM tweaks the engine or throws in a bigger sprocket for better low-end grunt. Not to forget, the bike also packs cornering ABS, a quickshifter, a slipper clutch, and traction control.

Since the test mule is wrapped in camo, we believe KTM is still in the pre-production phase with the 390 Adventure Rally. So, its launch and other details could still be some time away.
