For starters, the headlights seem to be twin-projector units while the taillight and indicators are LED. The clip-ons seem to be lightened as you can notice the holes in the handlebar clamps, and the switchgear has been carried over from the BMW G 310 R. The bike sports a vertically-stacked digital instrument cluster with a shift light and other tell-tale lights. It also comes with two buttons to go through the information in the instrument cluster.

The large bubble-top windscreen should contribute to efficient aerodynamics. The sculpted tank ends with split seats and the rider’s seat appears to be low enough for even shorter people. The 41mm gold-finished front forks and the alloy wheels have been borrowed from its German cousin, while the rear wheel is suspended by a monoshock. Braking duties are carried out by petal discs on both ends, and are linked with a dual-channel ABS. The wheels are shod with the same Michelin Pilot street radials as found in the G 310 R. The swingarm design is similar to the one found in the German bike as well, but might be made of mild steel to keep the costs low.

The bike is powered by the G 310 R-sourced liquid-cooled, 313cc single-cylinder engine. The German motorcycle puts out about 33.4PS of power at 9500rpm and 28Nm of torque at 7500rpm. However, the powerplant in the Akula is likely to be tuned differently. Its nearest competitor, the KTM RC 390 produces 43.5PS of power and 36Nm of torque.

Expect the Apache RTR 310 to be launched by the festive season at an estimated price of Rs 2-2.5 lakh, ex-showroom. When launched, the bike will rival the KTM RC 390, Benelli’s upcoming Tornado 302R and the Kawasaki Ninja 300.
