Skoda's flagship SUV, the Kodiaq, has been teased on the company's website - but the company has not released any details. Some Skoda dealerships though have already begun accepting bookings of SUV, cashing in on the hype surrounding the SUV.
Some Skoda dealerships have confirmed that they are accepting bookings for the Kodiaq, but details on the launch period, variants, etc. are unknown. Booking amounts range from a minimum of Rs 21,000 to Rs 2 lakh!
What we know, and we know very less as of now, is that the Skoda Kodiaq will be the company's new flagship in India - slotting in above the Skoda Superb sedan, which itself is priced in the Rs 26-33 lakh range. It is based on the VW group's MQB platform, has a monocoque chassis and can seat 7 people.
As far as international engine, transmission and drive options are concerned, the 1.4-litre, TSI petrol motor is available in two variants: the 125PS/200Nm version is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission and is only available with front-wheel-drive. The 150PS/250Nm version is paired to a dual-clutch transmission (DSG) and is available in either FWD or AWD. Additionally, a 2.0-litre, TSI motor that develops 180PS/320Nm, paired to a DSG with AWD is also available.
The other engine on offer is a 2.0-litre TDI diesel. One variant of the same develops 150PS/340Nm, is available with either a manual or a DSG transmission and FWD/AWD drive systems. The more powerful 190PS/400Nm version is available only with DSG and AWD. Skoda has not confirmed what the India bound Kodiaq will be offered with exactly, but we know that the DSG and AWD will be offered in certain variants.
Clever features shown at the international drive of the Kodiaq included umbrellas in the rear doors, door edge protection system, detachable torch in the boot, blind spot warning, lane-keeping assist, collision-avoidance braking etc. A motorised tailgate with a handsfree operation, 360-degree parking camera assist, three-zone climate control and panoramic sunroof etc. are expected to be offered in India.
Once launched, the Skoda Kodiaq is expected to go up against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour etc. More details on the Skoda Kodiaq are awaited, stay tuned.
