After a little over a week of resuming operations, Mercedes-Benz India has stepped on the gas. It’s bringing over two V8-powered AMGs to help fight gloomy lockdown blues. From the opposite ends of the AMG spectrum, the C 63 coupe and updated GT R sports car will debut on May 27.
Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe:

This is possibly your last chance to get yourself a V8-powered C-Class. With the next generation, the C 63 is set to go hybrid with a four-cylinder engine (gasp!). If you prefer the rumble of a V8, you’d be happy to know that the twin-turbo motor dishes out 476PS/650Nm, enough to scurry you to 100kmph in just 4 seconds. Keep the pedal floored and it will take you to an electronically limited 250kmph.

We’ve seen the C-Class coupe already, in the form of the AMG C 43. Compared to the V6-powered C 43, the C 63 has few (but noticeable) visual differences such as a new slatted AMG grille and forged alloy wheels. Inside, we expect it to come with an updated digital instrument display and the brilliant MBUX infotainment system.
Mercedes-AMG GT R:

Think about an AMG GT, and a GT R finished in ‘Green Hell Magno’ instantly pops up. The GT R proved its mettle by setting an astonishing lap time at the Nurburgring. Recognized as one of the best-handling supercars you can put your money on, the updated version brings with it redesigned headlights, a new grille and some new features including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a new steering wheel.

Mechanically, it remains unchanged, drawing power from the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 unit found in the C 63. Power figures stand unchanged at 585PS and 70Nm of twist. It lights up the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Performance remains unchanged too, as the AMG GT R goes from nought to 100 in 3.6 seconds and maxes out at 318kmph.
We expect prices for the Mercedes-AMG GT R to hover around Rs 2.5 crore, given the pre-facelift version retailed for Rs 2.3 crore (ex-showroom). The C 63 Coupe is likely to be priced around the Rs 1.5 crore mark, similar to the C 63 S sedan that was previously on sale. The C63 Coupe locks horns with the BMW M4 while the Mercedes-AMG GT R rivals the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
