Back at home, we’re still waiting for the Mahindra Mojo BS6 to arrive, and we’re still waiting to actually spot a Jawa Perak out on the road. But overseas, Mahindra’s other subsidiary Peugeot Motocycles has just rolled out the stylish and patriotic Django 125 210th Anniversary Edition.
If you, like me, are moderately knowledgeable and know how to count, then you, like me, are probably pretty confused because motorised transport didn’t exist 210 years ago, so neither did Peugeot Motocycles. But the family business that preceded the current Peugeot company was founded in 1810 to manufacture coffee mills and bicycles. It’s this anniversary that this scooter is celebrating.

To do this, it comes wrapped in its national tricolour of bleu, blanc and rouge -- the body panels are blue and white, while the lovely quilted leather seats come finished in red. There’s also splendid red, white and blue striping that runs along the length of the scooter, and the overall result is a stylish but also pretty loud and flamboyant scooter.
A lot of show but very little go, because the Django is powered by a 125cc SOHC motor producing 10.14PS at 8500rpm and 8.9Nm at 7000rpm. It rolls on 12-inch wheels at both ends and suspension is taken care of by a telescopic fork and monoshock.

With only 21 units on offer, you’ll need fairly deep pockets to pick one up because each one is priced at 437,800 Japanese yen or around Rs 3.06 lakh. The Anniversary Edition will go on sale on September 26, the same day that Peugeot celebrates 210 years of existence.
