Hero Vida NEX 2 Design Patented: A Self-Balancing Electric Trike Is Closer To Reality!

Hero appears to be moving ahead with its futuristic urban mobility plans as the company has filed a design patent for the Vida NEX 2 electric trike in India. The concept was first showcased as part of the Vida Novus range at EICMA 2025, where Hero introduced three next-generation mobility concepts: NEX 1, NEX 2 and NEX 3.

The patent images indicate that the production model is expected to stay largely faithful to the concept that was displayed in Milan.

Distinctive Three-Wheel Design

Unlike a conventional scooter, the Vida NEX 2 uses a two-wheel front layout paired with a single rear wheel. The wide front end accommodates the dual-wheel setup, while the rear section tapers down for a compact overall profile.

Although Hero has not disclosed the dimensions, the NEX 2 appears to have been designed specifically for city commuting, with compact proportions that should make it easier to navigate through urban traffic.

One of the most interesting aspects of the trike is its advanced front suspension. Similar to premium leaning three-wheelers sold internationally (Yamaha Niken, anyone?), the NEX 2 can lean into corners like a regular motorcycle or scooter, promising a more natural riding experience despite the additional front wheel.

Self-Balancing Technology Takes Centre Stage

The biggest highlight of the Vida NEX 2 is its self-balancing capability. Unlike traditional two-wheelers, the system can automatically stabilize the vehicle at low speeds or when stationary.

This means riders won't need to put a foot down while waiting at traffic lights or crawling through slow-moving traffic, making the trike especially convenient for daily city use.

Sharp Styling With Practical Touches

The design retains the futuristic styling seen on the original concept. It gets a tall windscreen, sleek LED lighting, muscular front apron and large alloy wheels with a distinctive V-shaped spoke pattern.

The handlebar appears to be positioned slightly forward, suggesting a mildly sporty riding posture. At the same time, Hero hasn't ignored practicality. The NEX 2 gets a sizable front storage compartment beneath a hinged lid, along with a circular instrument console, retractable footpegs, sturdy grab rails and a neatly finished tail section.

Battery And Performance Expectations

Hero has not announced any technical specifications yet, but the Vida NEX 2 is expected to feature a high-torque electric motor coupled with a direct-drive transmission. A lithium-ion battery pack with fast-charging capability is also likely.

The battery is expected to be mounted low in the chassis, helping improve stability by lowering the centre of gravity.

While the focus could lean more towards performance than outright efficiency, a real-world riding range of over 100km seems achievable with current battery technology.

Launch Timeline Still Under Wraps

At the moment, Hero has only secured the design patent, and there is no official confirmation regarding its launch schedule. However, this might be only for foreign markets, where trikes are popular. Currently, a trike does not fit into Indian automotive norms, and hence the NEX 2 is unlikely to be launched here. That said, it seems that the Indian design patent has been filed on behalf of Hero MotoCorp’s Italian subsidiary. It might just be launched in Italy first, and then the rest of Europe.
