Upcoming Honda Cruiser: Our Expectations

Honda seems to be building something utterly beautiful. The patented image drawings (in this story) is likely to be the future styling DNA for a range of Honda scooters. And while the concept does seem outlandish and more neo less retro, expect it to be slightly toned down for the production model.

The Japanese bikemaker is no stranger to neo retro: the company’s performance naked series of bikes follow the Neo Sports Cafe theme. The CB1000R+ and the CB300R are a couple of the bikes to be offered with this styling in India, and the CB650R will join them shortly as well. Thus, it would not be a total surprise if Honda chose to style the PCX series or, for something that is more closer to home, the Dio, on these lines.

We are confident that Honda might not be able to pull off the single-piece body that is shown in the concept for the production scooter. In the event of a crash, the entire body would need to be replaced, not to mention the expense and man hours required to execute said replacement. But needless to say it looks extremely elegant and flashy. We find the slit on the face, where the lights are likely to be found, quite eye-catching, and the swooping lines exquisite.

This decluttered look would work nicely for the Dio, which we hope in the next ten years could be Honda’s challenger in the 150cc class, taking on the likes of the Aprilia SR 160. The foundations of the bike also suggest that it would work well for a slightly larger displacement scooter and not the regular 110s and 125s that populate our market.

Let us not bore you with speculations about the possible pricing and stuff about the scooter as it is a good 6-10 years away from production at the very least. We just wish the final product looks as stunning as these design filings.
