Homologation is likely to take place in India

  • Only four models from the family will be sold in India.
  • The Roadster will be discontinued.
  • BS6 variants will arrive from April 1.
  • Believe it or not, the Harley-Davidson Street 750 was the first BS6-compliant motorcycle in the country to go on sale. Harley had updated the bike towards the end of 2019. We were a little apprehensive whether the old-school Sportster series of bikes will still be alive once BS6 emission norms kick in, as these are decade old air-cooled engines. While the Sportsters will not be on sale from 2021 in Europe, the bikes will continue to sell in India as Harley-Davidson will be bringing BS6-compliant Sportsters from April 1.

In the 2020 lineup, only Forty-Eight, Iron 883, 1200 Custom and Forty-Eight Special will be available. Of them, the Iron 883 will be the lone surviving warrior to arrive with the smaller capacity 883cc V-twin motor which churns out 70Nm. The other three will be powered by the larger 1200cc Evolution V-twin motor that puts out 97Nm.

This means that Harley will be axing the Roadster from its 2020 line-up. The Roadster is one of the sportier Harleys that comes with lowered bars, mid-set footpegs, an upside-down fork and twin discs.

Expect the Iron 883 to now be priced a smidge above Rs 10 lakh while the other three will have prices starting from Rs 11 lakh onwards.
