[Update: Bajaj has launched the Chetak at Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom). The scooter will be available in Pune and Bengaluru first followed by other cities. Know more about the variants, performance and other details here.]

If you are looking to go electric, Bajaj Auto will begin accepting bookings for the Chetak from December. The bookings will initially open in Pune, followed by Bengaluru. The electric scooter will be available at Bajaj Probiking dealerships across the country with the booking amount likely to be Rs 5,000. Bajaj will host a launch event of the Chetak in January 2020 with the prices expected to be around Rs 1.10 lakh - Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom) after FAME-II subsidies.
The news came at the conclusion of Bajaj Auto’s daunting Delhi to Pune road trip on the Chetak as 20 electric scooters rolled into the company’s Akurdi plant. The scooters were on a month-long road-trip, which took them through cities such as Agra, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Goa. The Chetaks clocked 3,000km in the process, proving they are ready to face any challenge that India throws at them.

The iconic Chetak was revived in October as Bajaj’s first foray into the electric mobility space was with a family scooter. It is powered by 4kW Bosch BLDC motor and has a real-world range of 95km in Eco mode, which dips to 85km in Sport mode. While we do not have exact specs of the battery, Bajaj has stated that the batteries get a 3-year/50,000km warranty and a battery life of 70,000km. The scooter gets a 15,000km service interval.
There is no fast-charging option for the scooter as Bajaj has found it leads to the battery cells deteriorating at a rapid rate. Bajaj will sell a home charging station at a nominal cost. This charging station is similar to the Ather Dot, which Ather sells alongside the 450.
