Back at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, Audi had revealed the Q4 e-tron electric SUV concept. A little over a year later, the carmaker has taken the wraps off the Q4 Sportback e-tron concept which is essentially a coupe version of the Q4 concept with only subtle tweaks differentiating the two SUVs.

One of the major differentiators between the Q4 Sportback and the standard Q4 is the swooping coupe roofline of the former. The Sportback is 4,600mm long, 1,600mm tall, 1,900mm wide, and has a wheelbase spanning 2,770mm. Compared to the Q4, it is longer and shorter by only 10mm.

The Q4 Sportback retains notable styling bits from the standard Q4 such as the single-frame octagonal grille, flanked by unique matrix LED headlights at the top, sleek connected tail lights, a wide stance, and aggressive wheel arches with 22-inch alloy wheels. There are minor tweaks in the form of a different alloy wheel design and air intakes at the front featuring vertical fins at the outer edges.

Interior highlights include Alcantara seats, microfiber material for the window pillars, upper section of the door rail, dash panel, headliner, as well as squared-off steering wheel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with touchpad controls. The cabin features a digital instrument cluster and ample storage capacity around the centre console due to the lack of a traditional gear shifter.

As is the case with the standard Q4, the Q4 Sportback is based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) platform. Under the hood are two electric motors that power the two axles, with a combined output of 306PS and 460Nm of torque, juiced up by a 82kWh battery pack. This propels the two SUVs from 0-100kmph in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 180kmph.

The production-spec standard Q4 e-tron is likely to debut by the end of 2020, with Audi expecting the coupe iteration to head into production by 2021. There’s no word on when either of these two Audi EV SUVs will make it to India, but it could be in the pipeline considering Mercedes-Benz will be bringing the EQC electric SUV to India later this year.
