The Hyundai Staria has been showcased at the ongoing Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, sharing the spotlight with models like the new Creta Electric and Ioniq 9. Visitors at the event can experience this futuristic, spaceship-like MPV firsthand, but its launch in India may not happen anytime soon. The Staria, available in global markets from 2021, shares its platform with the Kia Carnival, offering a more affordable alternative to its premium cousin. For those not at the event in Delhi, we’ve got you covered with all the key details about this distinctive Hyundai MPV.
As for this author, the Staria looks like a Velfire on budget striking a simplified balance between luxury and affordability. It looks like nothing usual for the Indian roads, featuring a sloping nose leading to an open rectangular grille adorned with T-shaped inserts. The front also includes vertically stacked headlights and a sleek connected light bar positioned above the Hyundai emblem.
The side profile resembles a bullet, riding on stylish 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. It features sliding doors for easy access to the second row.
At the rear, the design is flat and clean, highlighted by tall LED taillights with eye-catching pixelated lighting elements.
Inside, the Staria has a host of premium features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 4.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, dual-zone climate control, and 64-colour ambient lighting. Comfort is a priority, with an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, first and second-row ventilated and heated seats, and a wireless phone charger. Additional features include a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, a tilt-and-telescopic adjustable steering wheel with mounted controls, an auto-dimming IRVM, paddle shifters, and push-button start/stop.
The Staria comes equipped with six airbags as standard, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, a blind-spot monitor, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS features.
Globally, the Hyundai Staria is offered with multiple powertrain options, including a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 177 PS and 431 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. Some markets also get a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 272 PS and 331 Nm. The Staria comes in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.
If launched, the Hyundai Staria is expected to be positioned as a premium MPV, priced around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). The Staria could end the Kia Carnival’s rival-less run in the premium MPV segment.
The Staria’s success will depend on how well it attracts buyers in this niche segment. What are your thoughts on this futuristic, spaceship-like vehicle? Share your opinions in the comments below!
