Honda CB500

Honda recently launched the retro-roadster CB500 in India. The bike comes in three variants and features a massive single-cylinder engine. Here’s all you need to know about the Honda bike with the help of detailed real-life images: 

Old-School Cool

The Honda CB500 gets a classic roadster design, drawing clear inspiration from the smaller CB350 range. It features a round LED headlight, a muscular fuel tank, a single-piece seat and plenty of chrome-finished elements. Overall, the CB500 sticks to a simple retro design while having enough road presence to distinguish itself from the smaller CB350.

A Big 501cc Thumper

The biggest highlight of the Honda CB500 is its all-new 501cc, single-cylinder, air- and oil-cooled engine. It produces 28 PS and 43.3 Nm, giving it considerably more torque than the CB350. In fact, the CB500 is currently the only 500cc single-cylinder motorcycle on sale in India.

Three Variants

The Honda CB500 is available in three variants: Alloy, Spoke and Spoke with Stripe. The base variant gets alloy wheels, while the higher variants get cross-spoke wheels with tubeless tyres. The range-topping version further differentiates itself with an exclusive colour and graphics.

Tubeless Spoke Wheels

One of the CB500's standout features is the availability of cross-spoke tubeless wheels on the higher variants. They retain the retro appeal of conventional spoke wheels while offering the convenience of tubeless tyres, making puncture repairs considerably easier.

Traction Control

The CB500 gets Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) across all variants. Essentially Honda's traction control system, it helps manage rear-wheel slip on low-grip surfaces and adds another layer of safety to the big single-cylinder roadster.

Slipper Clutch

Despite its old-school styling and big single-cylinder engine, the CB500 gets a slipper clutch as standard. Apart from making aggressive downshifts smoother, it should also make the motorcycle easier to manage during everyday riding.

Semi-Digital Console

Keeping with its retro theme, the CB500 gets a semi-digital instrument console instead of a completely digital unit. However, it isn't completely old-school, as Honda has also equipped the motorcycle with RoadSync smartphone connectivity.

Dual-Channel ABS

Braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends, backed up by dual-channel ABS. Combined with traction control, the CB500 gets a decent safety package considering its retro roadster positioning.

Made In India

The Honda CB500 is manufactured in India, which has helped Honda price the motorcycle competitively despite bikes above 350cc attracting the higher GST slab. It sits above the CB350 range while undercutting the Royal Enfield 650 twins.

Price

The Honda CB500 starts at Rs 2,75,000 for the Alloy variant. The Spoke variant costs Rs 2,99,900, while the top-spec Spoke with Stripe variant is priced at Rs 3,01,900 (all prices are ex-showroom Delhi). At this price, the CB500 occupies a rather unique space as a large-capacity, single-cylinder retro roadster.
