This new powertrain gives the LC 300 more muscle than ever, making it the most potent Land Cruiser to date

Toyota has given its top-of-the-line Land Cruiser, the LC 300, a major powertrain upgrade by introducing a petrol-hybrid variant for the first time. Introduced for the Australian market, this new 3.5-litre V6 hybrid engine was earlier introduced in the Middle East as well. Notably, this powertrain setup makes the Land Cruiser hybrid the most powerful version of the nameplate yet. Let’s take a closer look and explore its India launch prospects.

Powertrain Specifications

The new 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine is paired with an electric motor in a parallel hybrid setup, delivering a combined output of 457 PS and 790 Nm. Power is sent to all-four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission, similar seen on the Lexus LX 700h as well. Given the power output upgrades, it not only enhances the LC 300’s on-road performance but also brings a more refined and efficient edge to its rugged persona.

Design and Interior Updates

While the overall design stays true to the LC’s rugged roots, the hybrid variant gets a few exclusive touches. These include a redesigned front bumper, a slightly larger air intake, and HEV-specific badging to set it apart from the diesel engine-powered versions. Notably, the LC 300 GR Sport version with the hybrid setup does not get any exterior changes.

Inside, the updates are modest with a refreshed digital driver's display, which now displays hybrid-centric data. The infotainment gets an update with a larger 12.3-inch display, while it also gets an addition of a power outlet in the boot.

India Launch? Not Yet.

As of now, Toyota has no official word on bringing the LC 300 hybrid to India. On our shores, the Toyota LC 300 continues to be offered with a 3.3-litre V6 diesel engine that delivers 309 PS and 700 Nm of torque. Available in standard and GR Sport variants, the current lineup is priced from Rs 2.31 crore (ex-showroom).

That said, the hybrid powertrain with the LC 300 will arrive in Australian dealerships by early 2026, with a wider global rollout expected thereafter.
