The Innova heading to a Maruti showroom will soon become a reality as the next-gen strong-hybrid MPV will be rebadged

Ever since Toyota and Maruti Suzuki joined hands for its partnership, it has got us wondering what all Toyota models would Maruti rebadge. Probably a rebadged Fortuner, Innova, or some wishful thinking… the Hilux. But coming closer to reality, the next-gen Innova Hycross will be rebadged for Maruti Suzuki. 

Toyota is preparing to take the wraps off the Innova Hycross in November. It will be a completely different version from the existing Crysta, as the Innova nameplate, for the first time, will be based on a monocoque platform. Plus, another debutant for the popular MPV will be the presence of a strong-hybrid powertrain. 

It will be a 2-litre petrol engine teamed with an electric motor that’s likely to push over 190PS of power. This powertrain will spin the front wheels unlike the current version of the Innova, which has been rear-wheel drive only. There won’t be a diesel engine on offer, but a base petrol engine is likely to be on the cards to drop the entry-level pricing. 

Like the carmakers’ existing badge-shared products like the Baleno/Glanza and Grand Vitara/Urban Cruiser Hyryder, you can expect the Innova to boast different styling touches to give them an unique appeal. Also, on the inside, the MPVs could have different colour schemes, but not many changes to the cabin layout.

Prices for the Innova Hycross and Maruti’s version of the MPV are likely to start around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will be a premium alternative to the Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo.
