If there’s one name that’s been a household staple for Indian families for nearly two decades, it’s the Innova. It has been India's favourite MPV and now, with the Hycross, the successor to the legendary MPV, Toyota has not just changed the formula, it’s perfected it. The latest proof? A full 5-star safety rating under the Bharat NCAP crash test protocol.
That’s right. The Innova Hycross is not just about comfort and space for eight anymore. It now officially joins the club of India’s safest cars, acing both adult and child occupant protection tests with near-flawless scores.
Let’s break it down.
Out of a maximum of 32 points, the Hycross managed 30.47 points for adult protection.

The detailed scores are as follows:
Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test: 14.47/16
Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test: 16/16
Side Pole Impact Test: Rated "OK" with good integrity
The crash test report reveals that the Hycross offers excellent protection to critical areas, i.e. the head, chest, and upper legs, for both the driver and front passenger in the frontal crash scenario. The score in the side impact test? A perfect 16/16, maximum brownie points right there!
It’s not just adults who are safe in the Hycross. The MPV also scored a phenomenal 45 out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection, making it one of the safest choices for families with little ones.

Breakdown:
Dynamic Score (Crash simulation for child seats): 24/24
CRS (Child Restraint System) Installation Score: 12/12
Vehicle Assessment Score: 9/13
The test was conducted with ISOFIX-compatible child seats (facing rearward), installed using ISOFIX, which are standard on the second-row seats. The system offered full protection for both the 3-year-old and 18-month-old child dummies in both front and side impact scenarios.

Sadly, third-row child protection compatibility is not available, but considering most real-world users don’t strap kids into the third row anyway, it’s not a dealbreaker.
One of the biggest contributors to the Innova Hycross’s crash test rating is the standardisation of key safety features across variants. As standard, you get the following features:
ESC (Electronic Stability Control)
Six airbags
Seat Belt Reminders for all occupants
Pedestrian Protection Systems
ISOFIX child seat mounts and more

Considering the list, the Toyota Innova Hycross looks like a package that is practical, affordable, and an MPV for everyone from nuclear families to tour operators.
The Innova Hycross never tried to be sporty, rugged, or edgy. It knows its role, and it plays it with comfort and now, certified safety. The 5-star Bharat NCAP rating makes it one of the best packages which you can buy in India today.

Whether you are ferrying your children to school, hitting the highway with your loved ones, or shuttling corporate clients, you can now do it knowing the Hycross has your back and your side and your front, too! Comfortable, spacious, reliable and now safe.
