Will there also be a CNG scooter? Here’s what Rajiv Bajaj had to say

Rajiv Bajaj, MD (managing director), Bajaj Auto, revealed a lot of interesting details about some upcoming Bajaj bikes in his recent interview. For starters, he said that there will be as many as six new Pulsar bikes or significant upgrades to the Pulsar family in the next six months, along with one that’ll be the ‘biggest Pulsar ever’. We think that could be the Pulsar based on the Dominar 400’s 373cc engine. An RS400 maybe…a bike whose concept was shown at 2014 Auto Expo.

Next, he spoke about CNG two-wheelers. Now, while Rajiv ruled out the idea of a CNG scooter, he has said that a CNG motorcycle could very well be on the cards. While it’s not 100 percent confirmed yet, if it does happen, it’ll be the first ever CNG bike in India. While it’s not surprising, given that Bajaj's focus with regards to scooters is for EVs only, we think it makes a lot more sense for Bajaj to make a CNG scooter.

You see, on a motorcycle, Bajaj will have to replace the fuel tank with the CNG cylinder. It’s a vibey place to be and if it starts leaking, things can really go wrong, making it a slightly dangerous place. Making a CNG motorcycle, hence, is a lot more challenging than making a CNG scooter. Bikemakers could always compromise on the scooter’s floorboard to accommodate the CNG cylinder. These things said, there’s no denying that if a 100-110cc bike is made into a CNG-powered one, it’ll be incredibly efficient.

All in all, we’re happy about the multiple Pulsar upgrades coming our way. And now that the 400cc Pulsar is finally coming, Bajaj’s dominance in a 300-400cc performance-oriented segment will be incredible, for it will have the Triumph Speed 400, 2024 KTM 390 Duke, and of course, the upcoming ‘largest ever’ Pulsar.
