Family trips, grocery hauls, or weekend getaways, if you prefer a car that offers space and practicality, an MPV might just be the right pick for you. While SUVs are popular, many Indian buyers still prefer MPVs for their above mentioned capabilities.
Whether you need a flexible seating option, or prioritise creature comforts more, these MPV options focus on consumers of different needs. In this read, we have picked five MPVs priced under Rs 20 lakh that offer the best value for their people-moving capabilities.
Price: Starting from Rs 6.15 lakh (ex-showroom)
If you are on a tight budget, the Renault Triber makes a strong case for itself, offering a three-row layout under Rs 7 lakh. Despite its sub-4-metre size, the Triber offers usable third-row space for adults. However it cannot be considered ideal for tall passengers. That said, folding or removing the third row seats frees up ample boot space. Engine options for the Triber include a 1-litre petrol unit that produces 72 PS and 96 Nm, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. It’s also available with a factory-fitted CNG kit.
Price: Starting from Rs 8.97 lakh (ex-showroom)
A long-time favourite in the MPV segment, the Maruti Ertiga is often a top pick, especially among fleet operators. It's also appreciated by its owners for its spacious cabin, offering good headroom and legroom. The third row is usable even by adults for short trips, which is not always the case in other MPVs. Notably, it’s also available as the Toyota Rumion, a rebadged version of the Ertiga. Both are powered by a 103 PS 1.5-litre petrol engine that can also be had with a factory-fitted CNG kit.
Price: Starting from Rs 11.84 lakh (ex-showroom)
The XL6 is essentially a more premium version of the Ertiga. Instead of a regular bench, it gets captain seats in the second row. The XL6 features SUV-like styling with niceties like ventilated front seats, automatic climate control, and a 360-degree camera. Engine option is still limited to a 1.5-litre petrol unit producing 103 PS and 137 Nm, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. A factory-fitted CNG option is also available.
Price: Starting from Rs 11.41 lakh (ex-showroom)
With the arrival of the Carens Clavis, Kia had trimmed the Carens lineup down to a single Premium (O) variant. Despite being the only option,it is still offered with all three engine choices with the Carens. Thanks to its long 2,780 mm wheelbase, cabin space is generous, even adults can sit comfortably in the third row. Key features include an 8-inch infotainment system, rear sunshades, six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a reverse camera with sensors.
Price: Starting from Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom)
Kia recently launched the Carens Clavis, a more premium take on the Carens. Along with its upmarket appeal, the design also features a more muscular look. Inside, it offers a modern layout, while the generous cabin space of the Carens has been carried forward. You also get clever storage spaces throughout the cabin, along with features like rear sunshades and multiple USB-C charging ports. Powertrain options include a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.
Price: Starting from Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom)
Coming to the final contender on this list is a favourable nameplate for most MPV buyers, the Toyota Innova Crysta. Although its pricing starts just below Rs 20 lakh, it rightfully earns a spot on this list thanks to its practical cabin and comfortable ride quality. The Innova Crysta is available only with a 2.4-litre diesel engine that produces 150 PS and 343 Nm, paired only with a 5-speed manual transmission. Key features include an 8-inch infotainment system, an eight-way powered driver seat, ambient lighting, and keyless entry with push-button start.
