India-spec Renault Triber gets a below average 2 stars rating in the Global NCAP safety crash test.
It was previously tested in 2021, when it got 4 stars for Adult Occupant Protection.
Both Adult and Child Occupant Protection receives 2 stars.
ISOFIX anchorages are not available for the middle row to install child seats.
The Triber is priced from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 8.97 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Renault Triber has been re-tested by the Global NCAP for the South Africa market, and the made in India MPV has received a disappointing 2 stars rating. The Triber was earlier tested in 2021 under less stricter norms, and had received an impressive four stars rating back then.
In the latest test, both Adult and Child Occupant Protection receives 2 stars, which results in its below average score. A point to note is that the Triber misses out on safety features, and the absence of it might have also played a key role in this rating.
The Renault Triber scored 22.29 out of 34.00 Adult for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 19.99 out of 49 for Child Occupant Protection (COP). This rating was significantly higher in 2021, when it got 11.62 out of 17 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), and 27 out of 49 in the Child Occupant Protection (COP).
In terms of adult protection for the frontal impact, the protection given to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good. The driver’s chest showed weak protection, while the passenger’s chest got adequate protection. The passenger’s knees received good protection, while the driver’s knees got marginal protection as it can come in contact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard. Both the driver’s and co-driver’s tibias showed adequate protection.
As for the side impact, the head, abdomen and pelvis showed good protection, but the chest showed weak protection. The side pole impact test wasn’t conducted as the Renault Triber doesn’t come with curtain airbags.
The footwell region is found to be stable, but is asymmetrical. Coming to the bodyshell, it was rated as unstable and not capable of bearing further loadings.
The child protection is also disappointing. The child seat for the 3 year old was installed forward facing using the adult belt, but it was unable to avoid forward head exposure during the frontal impact. Child protection for the neck and chest were also poor.
A rearward facing child seat was installed for the 18 month old child using the adult belt and it was able to prevent head exposure during the frontal impact offering full protection.
Side impact was commendable as both dummy’s got full protection.
As mentioned above, the Triber misses out on certain safety features as standard across variants. These features include 6 airbags, 3-point seatbelts for all seats, and ISOFIX anchorages.

Safety features that are offered as standard are ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder for all passengers, electronic stability program, traction control, hill-start assist and rear parking sensors. A point to note is that the variant tested seemed to be a base variant with dual airbags, since the higher variants get 4 airbags in total.
The Renaut Triber is equipped with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which makes 72 PS and 96 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
The Renault Triber is priced from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 8.97 lakh (ex-showroom). It has no direct rivals as such, but is a seven-seater alternative to cars like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Tiago, and the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.
