The 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari debut ADAS functionality, a first for any Tata car in India

  • 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari get ADAS in top-end XZA+ (O) trim.
  • Rival car Mahindra XUV700 gets ADAS in two trims: AX7 and AX7 (O).
  • The Mahindra SUV also gets Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), a feature that Tata SUVs miss on.
  • Other additions in the Tata duo include a new 10.25-inch infotainment, 360-degree camera, and seven-inch digital driver’s display.

Fancy getting the 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari with ADAS and a manual gearbox? Well, it looks like you can’t have them both combined as Tata has limited the ADAS functionality to the new top-spec XZA+ (O) automatic variant only. If you want ADAS and a stick shifter together, you might want to look at the Mahindra XUV700.

That said, the manual ADAS variant of the XUV700 doesn’t get two crucial features – adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assist – both of which are limited to top-end AX7L automatic variants. The Tata duo, on the other hand, don’t get adaptive cruise control, but the rest of the suite is similar to the XUV700, including lane departure warning and collision avoidance assistance.

Another tiny advantage the XUV700 offers over the Tata duo is that most of the ADAS features are offered in the one-below-top AX7 trim, while the Luxury Pack automatic option adds the two above-mentioned features. So you don’t need to go all the way to the top-end variant for having ADAS functionality in the XUV700, unlike the Tata duo.

Keeping its competition in mind, Tata has given the Harrier and Safari some crucial additions apart from the addition of ADAS for its MY2023 update. The additions include a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with more features, seven-inch fully digital instrument cluster, memory setting for the driver’s seat, a 360-degree camera, and a powered co-driver’s seat with boss mode (Safari only).

To know what more has been revised in the 2023 Safari and Harrier, check this article. The smaller five-seater SUV starts from Rs 15 lakh, while the larger three-row SUV starts from Rs 15.65 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom). The Harrier rivals the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700 5-seater and Jeep Compass, while the Safari goes up against the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV700 7-seater.
