With the latest 2023 update, Tata Motors has addressed one of the achilles heel of the SUVs, the laggy infotainment system

One of the biggest updates the 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari received, in our books, is their new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment. This change is very much welcome as it replaces the old and laggy 8.8-inch touchscreen unit, which was the achilles heel of the SUVs. The newer unit looks much more crisper and gets plenty of new features, precisely what we’ll be talking about in this report.

Updated Interface

The new system brings with it a new interface. It’s now slicker, has much better graphics and most importantly, is befitting for a car that costs over Rs 20 lakh. It also displays various parameters like Air Quality Index (AQI), climate control functionality, and certain vehicle statistics. Even the feed for the 360-degree camera is streamed through this unit.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

A small convenience update comes in the form of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Previously, it was wired. So now, if you switch on the recommended connectivity setting on your phone, it will seamlessly connect it to the infotainment and voila… you have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Most importantly, the user interface for this wireless connectivity is full screen (previously it was truncated), which looks so much more premium than before. You also have a wireless phone charger to top up your phone while it’s being used through the car’s touchscreen.

The older infotainment system in the Harrier and Safari supported connected car tech and you could even access certain features using voice commands. With the new unit, it offers voice command support for up to six languages.

To know the other changes Tata has done to the 2023 Harrier and Safari, check out this story. The good part is that this infotainment won’t be limited to the marque’s flagship SUVs. Down the line, models such as the Altroz and the updated Nexon will get the updated infotainment system and touchscreen as well.
