The Tata Harrier, based on the OMEGA Arc platform, is the first model based on this architecture to get an electric powertrain

  • Tata Harrier EV debuts at Auto Expo 2023.
  • It gets revised design touches to distinguish it over the current Harrier.
  • Inside, the SUV now boasts a larger touchscreen infotainment system.
  • The SUV boasts ADAS-specific features.
  • Powered by dual electric motors and expected to have a range of over 400km.

There’s no doubt that Tata Motors is ruling the electric vehicle space in the Indian market. The Nexon EV kick-started things, by offering a decent enough range and the comfort of that of an SUV. The Tiago EV and Tigor EV are excellent cars for dwelling around town. But what if you want a Tata EV that is premium and upmarket? Your prayers are answered at Auto Expo 2023 as Tata has taken the wraps off the all-electric… wait for it… Harrier

The model that debuted at Auto Expo 2023 is a near production version. So some of these design touches might not make it to production. That said, it’s likely to preview the design changes that might be made to the facelifted model.

In terms of styling, the Tata Harrier looks similar to the ICE model with EV-specific design touches. So it gets a closed-off grille with a LED DRL strip running across the widh of the SUV. The bumpers and the cut outs to accommodate the headlamps are now angular, giving it a sporty look. Save for the revised dual-tone alloys and lack of door handles, the side profile remains similar to the current model. At the rear, the SUV now features more angular tail lamps, connected by a LED strip.

Inside, the electric Tata Harrier features a much larger infotainment system. And the presence of a radar on the front bumper means the electric SUV will have ADAS-based features.

The Harrier EV is the first model based on the OMEGA Arc platform to spawn an electric version. Technical specifications are yet to be revealed, but Tata said it will feature dual motors driving all four wheels. So technically, this is the first Tata to get all-wheel drivetrain currently. The SUV is expected to offer a range of over 400km.

The Tata Harrier EV is expected to go on sale later in 2023. It will fight it out with models such as the Hyundai Kona EV, MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV.e8.
