Triumph’s smallest bikes recently broke cover and it has had us excited! Both the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X look premium, attractive and are very promising on paper. But now that Triumph India has listed both bikes as well, a closer inspection of the spec sheets of the India-spec and the International-spec bikes has revealed a significant difference between the two.

And that is their weights! The international-spec Speed 400 tips the scales at 170kg, while the Scrambler 400 X does so at 179kg (both kerb) and we were quite happy that Triumph had managed to keep them both under the 180kg mark. But the India-spec bikes’ spec sheet shows that the Speed 400 weighs 178kg, while the Scrambler 400 X weighs 186kg.

The weight gain is significant and it does make the bikes seem a tad bit heavy. Yes, the (usually) hideous saree guard our bikes have to comply with does contribute to the increase in weight to an extent, but it still doesn’t explain the 7/8kg weight gain. These doubts will be put to rest anyway as the bikes will be launched in India on 5 July and their pre-bookings for them have already started. Our first ride review will drop soon afterwards to stay tuned to ZigWheels to know how these bikes perform in the real world.
