When the government rolled out the new GST structure effective 22 September 2025, one of the clearest impacts was on small cars, including several hatchbacks. Cars under 4 metres in length with engines under 1,200 cc (Petrol/CNG) or 1,500 cc (Diesel) have had their tax load reduced by quite a significant margin.
If you were in the market looking for a city-friendly hatchback, then here’s our list of the top 5 hatchbacks with the maximum GST cuts, with all of them helping you save around a lakh or more!
The S-Presso is now Maruti’s most affordable hatchback in India, after a massive price reduction of up to Rs 1.3 lakh (ex-showroom). Interestingly, even the base-spec variant sees a price reduction of almost Rs 80,000. With this, prices of the S-Presso start from Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is packed with features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, and a digital display with MID. The S-Presso comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, and rear parking sensors. However, it misses out on 6 airbags, which the slightly more expensive Alto gets.

The S-Presso is powered by a 1-litre petrol engine which produces 68 PS and 89 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Moreover, there is an option of a CNG powertrain with a manual transmission, which produces 57 PS and 82 Nm.
From the premium hatchback segment, we have the recently launched Tata Altroz facelift, which also gets a massive price cut. With benefits of up to Rs 1.1 lakh, the Altroz now ranges from Rs 6.89 lakh to Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Feature highlights include a 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, an 8-speaker sound system, a wireless phone charger, and a voice-assisted electric sunroof.

The Altroz gets petrol, diesel and CNG options. The petrol engine is a 1.2-litre NA petrol unit which makes 88 PS and 115 Nm. The diesel engine is the familiar 1.5-litre unit that churns out 90 PS and 200 Nm. It also comes with a CNG option, which makes a reduced output of 74 PS and 103 Nm in the CNG mode. Gearbox options include a standard 5-speed manual, and the option of a 5-speed AMT and a 6-speed DCT for the petrol.
Arguably the most popular entry-level hatchback, the Maruti Alto K10, sees a price reduction of up to Rs 1.08 lakh (ex-showroom). Its prices now range from Rs 3.7 lakh to Rs 6.09 lakh (ex-showroom). You get the highest benefit with the mid-spec LXi (O) CNG trim.
The Alto K10 gets a 7-inch infotainment system, power-adjustable ORVMs, manual AC, keyless entry, and a 4-speaker sound system. Passenger safety is taken care of by 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and ESC.

The Alto K10 is powered by a 1-litre petrol engine producing 67 PS and 89 Nm. It can be opted for with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission). For buyers who want lower running costs, there is also an option of a CNG powertrain which produces 57 PS and 82.1 Nm.
The popular Hyundai i20, which is available in both regular and N-Line trims, now sees a price reduction of up to Rs 97,000 for the top-spec variant. Prices for the regular i20 now start from Rs 6.87 lakh and go up to Rs 10.38 lakh (ex-showroom), while those of the N-Line variants go up to Rs 11.46 lakh.

The i20 gets plenty of features, such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, connected car tech features, automatic headlights, ambient lighting, cruise control, 6 standard airbags, and a single-pane sunroof. The regular i20 comes solely with a naturally aspirated petrol engine, while the N-Line version comes with a turbo-petrol engine that delivers better performance. Manual and automatic versions are offered with both choices.
Yes, another Maruti hatchback on the list! The highly fuel-efficient Celerio is not far behind in terms of GST price reductions, offering up to Rs 94,000 of benefits. Its prices now range from Rs 4.7 lakh and go up to Rs 6.73 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Celerio gets a 7-inch infotainment system, 4 speakers, steering-mounted audio controls, and connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Key safety features include 6 airbags, ESC and rear parking sensors.
The hatchback is powered by a 67PS 1-litre NA petrol engine, paired with a 5-speed manual and an optional 5-speed AMT. There’s a CNG option available as well, mated to a 5-speed manual.
For buyers in India looking for value, the GST 2.0 reforms have made hatchbacks significantly more attractive. If your budget is tight, the S-Presso and Alto now offer enormous value. If you want more comfort and features, Altroz and i20 are now becoming reachable without stretching the budget as much. Even someone eyeing a used car can rethink and plan on getting a new car instead. Moreover, these cars also change the resale dynamics.
