Don’t expect any significant changes to the design and mechanical components of the Toyota Vitz

  • Toyota will sell rebadged Maruti Celerio in South Africa.

  • Design changes are limited to the Toyota logo and Vitz nameplate.

  • No changes are expected inside the cabin.

  • To get the same 1-litre Dualjet petrol engine as the India-spec model.

Toyota’s South Africa lineup will get another rebadged Maruti product in the form of the Maruti Celerio, which will be called the Vitz under Toyota’s branding. It will join the likes of the Toyota Urban Cruiser as another product, which is the result of the affiliation between Maruti and Toyota, and will be available to order in the South African market in the coming months.

What’s new?

As of now, just the brand tag and the nameplate. The rest of the design sports no visible changes and we reckon the story to be the same on the inside as well. The mechanicals of the Toyota Vitz will be the same as the Maruti Celerio. That means the 67PS/89Nm 1-litre Dualjet petrol paired with a five-speed manual or an optional AMT will be housed underneath the bonnet.

The Toyota Vitz will be the fourth offering joining the list of rebadged Marutis currently spanning different body styles in the Japanese marque’s South African portfolio. These include the Rumion (Ertiga), Belta (Ciaz) and Urban Cruiser (previous-gen Vitara Brezza).
