Fans of Team Orange, we come bearing good news! The India-spec 2022 KTM RC 390 does get an adjustable rear monoshock which offers rebound damping and preload adjustment, contrary to what was believed until now.
When KTM unveiled the new RC 390 supersport internationally late last year, it was revealed that the completely redesigned bike would feature adjustable front and rear suspension. However, when the RC 390 was finally launched in India last month, we were definitely bummed to see that the India-spec model missed out on the adjustable fork.
Thankfully, we’ve now come to know that the RC 390 sold here is equipped with a single-piston WP Apex shock with five-step preload and rebound adjustability in the rear, which is the same as the international model.

This adjustable unit works alongside the non-adjustable, inverted 43mm WP Apex open cartridge fork at the front. In comparison, the international-spec KTM supersport on the other hand gets a 43mm WP Apex USD fork upfront with 30 clicks of compression and rebound damping.
The 2022 RC 390’s closest rivals are the TVS Apache RR 310 BTO and the Kawasaki Ninja 300. The TVS supersport comes equipped with a fully adjustable USD front fork coupled to a fully adjustable rear monoshock that features 20-step rebound damping and 10-step preload adjustability as a part of the optional Dynamic Kit. The Ninja 300, on the other hand, gets a 37mm non-adjustable telescopic fork upfront and link-type preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear.
It is definitely welcome that the India spec RC 390 gets the same rear adjustable suspension as the international model. However, for the price at which the bike is retailed, we just wish the supersport also came with the adjustable front suspension. Hopefully, KTM will roll out the adjustable front suspension as an optional extra in the near future.
