We faced some discrepancies with regards to the kerb weight of the older bike and hence, this update should clear everyone’s doubts

The KTM RC 390 has grown into a phenomenal beast of a supersport. It corners incredibly well, shoots off bends harder and is far more welcoming too. We had a bit of confusion regarding the difference in kerb weight between the older RC and this one.

While the current bike’s 172kg kerb weight isn’t under question, all of our previous spec sheets had the kerb weight of the old-gen RC 390 at 170kg. However, just prior to the ride, the Bajaj officials shared a spec comparison where the old RC’s weight was listed as 173kg. So, where did the bike gain its weight mysteriously?

The answer lies in the clarification we received from KTM: Kerb weight of RC Gen 1 BSVI is 173 kg. However the ARAI documents were made with a pilot vehicle, where some of the parts like the exhaust protector were not fitted, and hence declared weight was 170kg in the ARAI certificate.

That’s resolved then, right? The real talking point still remains the 4kg loss in dry weight, which has primarily been achieved by lighter wheels, a hollow front axle and lighter subframe.

And this weight loss results in quicker turn-ins that don’t require much effort. Don’t believe us? Check out our track ride review video!
