Just minutes ahead of the scheduled launch, Maruti’s first electric SUV, the e Vitara has scored an impressive 5 stars in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. Notably, with this development, the e Vitara joins its rivals like the Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra BE 6 to boast of this achievement of a full 5 stars in both the Adult and Child Occupant Protection categories. So let’s take a look at what its BNCAP scores say:
Score: 31.49/ 32.00
Starting off with the adult occupant protection scores, the e Vitara scored 31.49 out of a maximum 32 points, earning it a clear and impressive 5 stars. Both adult dummies showed good to adequate protection in the chest, tibias and knees, with a ‘good’ rating for the feet as well.

In the Frontal Offset Deformable Test, it scored an impressive 15.49 out of 16, with a full score of 16/16 for the Side Movable Deformable Barrier test as well. It also cleared the Side Pole Impact test, ensuring protection for occupants inside.
Score: 43.00/49.00
Talking of the Child Occupant Protection scores, the e Vitara secured 43.00 points out of a maximum of 49 points, earning it 5 stars in this category as well. It also scored a full 16 on 16 in both the dynamic and CRS installation tests, ensuring that the child seats fitted firmly and securely.

In terms of the vehicle assessment score, the e Vitara scored 7.00 out of 13, which, though decent, still leaves slight room for improvement.
This 5-star rating just adds another feather in the cap of the Maruti e Vitara, which packs in a long list of active as well as passive features, including a Level 2 ADAS suite, 7 airbags, electronic stability control, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera and hill hold assist.
While we await the pricing of the Maruti e Vitara, which is slated to be announced any minute now, it is likely to be priced between Rs 16 lakh to Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go up against rivals like the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Creta Electric.
Unsafe no more! While Maruti used to have a reputation for making unsafe cars, the recent BNCAP crash test results of cars like the Baleno, Dzire, Victoris and now the e Vitara show that India’s biggest carmaker also takes safety seriously. Rivals, gear up because the competition just got more fierce!
