The e Vitara is Maruti’s first all-electric model globally. The SUV features boxy and minimal styling, with ‘Y-shaped’ DRLs, a rugged bumper design with thick cladding and a slim faux grille to round things off.

Towards the side, it gets squared-off wheel arches with thick plastic cladding, muscular haunches and a rear door handle mounted behind the window to mimic a ‘two-door’ look, while the 19-inch alloy wheels help give it some style. At the rear, it gets a simplistic profile with a connected LED taillamp cluster and chunky cladding on the bumper.

Inside, Maruti has given the e Vitara a dual-tone brown-black upholstery theme, with square AC vents on the dashboard and a twin-screen setup. Rear passengers also get enhanced comfort with 40:20:40 split seats with individual slide and recline functions.

In terms of equipment offered it gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10-way powered driver seat, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, Infinity sound system, wireless charger and a fixed glass roof. Safety-wise, it has scored an impressive 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP and gets features such as 7 airbags, Level 2 ADAS, electronic stability control, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree camera and hill hold assist.

Underneath, it gets a choice of 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs which come paired to a single electric motor. Here are the detailed specifications of both powertrains:

The e Vitara sits in the middle of fierce rivals such as the MG Windsor EV, Tata Nexon EV and Curvv EV, VinFast VF6 and VF7, Mahindra BE 6 and XUV 3XO EV. It also competes with the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella which is based on the same underpinnings.

It has been a very long wait for the e Vitara’s pricing, and now that it is here we feel it could have been more competitive. However, the BaaS plans make owning the EV more accessible which will be appreciated by a lot of customers and it still comes across as a dependable and easy going EV, even if a bit plain-jane for the segment.
