Will it be a potential 5-star rated SUV in safety now? We hope so…

With safety tech becoming top priority in cars, and buyers getting more aware about its importance, it has become necessary for carmakers to provide the best safety equipment. The Mahindra Scorpio N is an SUV that is very desirable and has its fan following. The Indian marque will soon be updating the Scorpio N with the popular safety feature called ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.

While official prices and details are yet to be revealed, information that has surfaced online have confirmed details about the variant updates, that includes ADAS for the top-end Z8 L trim and a new Z8 T variant! Here’s a closer look at the updates:

Mahindra Scorpio N: What’s New?

The top-spec Z8 L variant will be the only one to get ADAS, and will be offered with all the powertrain options as well as both 6- and 7-seater layouts.

The ADAS suite will include features like lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and auto emergency braking. Other safety features of the Scorpio N include front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, ESC, a tyre pressure monitoring system, 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a reverse parking camera and hill hold assist. With ADAS tech and other mandatory features, chances of the Scorpio N acing the safety crash tests is high.

Meanwhile, the new Z8 T variant sits below the Z8 L and is for those who don’t need ADAS, but want all the creature comforts and niceties of the Scorpio N. Over the Z8 trim, the Z8 T offers bits like 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear camera, front parking sensors, ventilated front seats, powered driver seats, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, auto dimming IRVM, and 65 W type-C fast charger. It will also come with an electronic parking brake with auto hold, a new feature for the Scorpio N.

Also, Mahindra has discontinued 3 colour shades of the Scorpio N, the red, gold and blue hues.  Colours available include Dazzling Silver, Stealth Black, Everest White, and Deep Forest.

Mahindra Scorpio N: Powertrain Options

Mechanically, everything will remain the same and both Z8 T and Z8 L will come with all the engine options. Here’s a look at the Scorpio N’s powertrain choices:

Engine

2-litre turbo petrol

2.2-litre diesel

Power/ Torque

203 PS/ Up to 380 Nm

Up to 175 PS/ Up to 400 Nm

Transmission Options

6-speed MT, 6-speed AT

6-speed MT, 6-speed AT

While rear-wheel drive is standard, the diesel manual and automatic are also available with an optional four-wheel drivetrain.

ZigSays…

The Scorpio N has been tested for safety by the Australian NCAP, where it got a 0-star rating due to the absence of ADAS features. Now with ADAS on offer, we expect the Scorpio N to get a better score.

Also, we expect the non-ADAS top-spec variant to be more affordable by at least Rs 1 lakh. So we expect Mahindra to price the new Z8 T variant similarly to the current Z8 L variant, while the updated Z8 L will likely be priced higher. Currently, the prices for the Scorpio N range between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 25.15 lakh (ex-showroom). Stay tuned as we will soon bring out the revised prices of the Scorpio N. Till then, let us know your thoughts about the Scorpio N in the comments section.
