The Scorpio is a nameplate that’s bound to be included when we talk about SUVs with the most road presence in India. Well, Mahindra has taken that up a notch by introducing the Scorpio N with a Carbon Edition very recently. They have also done something similar with the Scorpio Classic, launching the Boss Edition last year as a festive offering. What’s mutual between these two is the added darkness, and what’s different is something we’ll find out in this report. So, let’s take a closer look in more detail.
The Mahindra Scorpio N Carbon Edition gets an all-black treatment with more blacked-out elements on the grille, skid plates, alloy wheels, and logos. It gives the SUV a more aggressive and stealthy look.
On the other hand, the Scorpio Classic Boss Edition retains its traditional design but gets a blacked-out grille, and plenty of dark chrome touches on the bonnet scoop, grille, around the headlights and fog lights, door handles, side indicators and rear reflectors.
The upholstery in the Scorpio N Carbon follows a black/grey combination, while the dashboard layout remains familiar, accented by silver surrounds on the centre console, AC vents, and door handles. The steering wheel retains slight chrome touches, with a silver finish on two of its spokes. There are no feature upgrades though. It continues with all the features of the top-spec standard Scorpio N like wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 7-inch instrument cluster, wireless phone charger with cooling function, auto headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, 12-speaker Sony sound system and ventilated front seats with 6-way power adjustment for the driver side.
The interior of the Scorpio Classic Boss Edition, in contrast, gets beige upholstery, and sports black seat covers. Unlike the Scorpio N Carbon, the Scorpio Classic Boss Edition brings you a reverse parking camera which was a big miss on the standard car. It gets all the other features of the standard car like a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 9-inch infotainment screen (no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto), automatic climate control, cruise control, remote locking/unlocking, dual airbags and parking sensors.

The Mahindra Scorpio N Carbon Edition is powered by a turbo-petrol and a diesel engine, available with both manual and automatic transmission options. It also offers 4x4 capabilities for off-road enthusiasts. The Scorpio Classic Boss Edition, on the other hand, comes with a sole diesel engine paired with a manual transmission. It retains its strong ladder-frame chassis, making it a capable workhorse for rough terrains.
The Scorpio N Carbon Edition is priced higher from Rs 19.19 lakh to Rs 24.89 lakh (ex-showroom), due to its more premium positioning and advanced features. It competes with SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and Tata Safari and is a body-on-frame alternative to compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate and Volkswagen Taigun.
The Scorpio Classic is more affordable with its regular variants priced from Rs 13.62 lakh to Rs 17.42 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a body-on-frame alternative to SUVs like the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Tata Curvv, Maruti Grand Vitara and Honda Elevate.
The Scorpio N Carbon Edition is for those who want a stylish, feature-loaded SUV with modern technology. Meanwhile, the Scorpio Classic Boss Edition was a festive offering especially meant for people who prefer a rugged, no-nonsense SUV that stays true to its off-road roots.
