KTM has revealed that it will launch another variant, complete with the international-spec suspension travel soon. Just like your favourite smartphone, this ‘Pro Max’ variant, will be better and more capable. But do you reeeaaally need it?

KTM's Mic Drop Moment To Those Who Complain highlights

When KTM announced the specifications of the India-spec 390 Enduro R, there was a huge hue and cry on social media about the fact that India was not receiving the international version. The India-spec variant has a suspension travel of 200mm at the front and 205mm wheel travel at the rear, while the international spec has 230mm wheel travel at both ends. As a consequence, the longer suspension increases the bike's seat height from 860mm (India-spec) to a massive 890mm on the international spec, along with the ground clearance, which goes from 253mm to 272mm. This was enough fodder for the keyboard warriors to make their voice heard. However, if you think rationally, KTM is a business-making brand that sells motorcycles at the end of the day. So, logically, their approach will be to ensure their product is approachable to the riders of different statures. Turns out the average Indian height (not ego, it seems) is shorter than Europeans or North Americans, which is why KTM had to take the call of offering the Indian market something that’s more manageable, and hence the lower suspension travel. That said, the 200-odd mm wheel travel isn’t something to scoff at. Neither is the fairly generous 253mm ground clearance.

Realistically speaking, the international-spec version will only be in demand for those who are really into hardcore enduro riding, and that’s a super thin slice of the pie. That said, KTM doesn’t want to ignore them, and has hence revealed that it will bring the international-spec version with the 230mm wheel travel at both ends as a variant soon, probably in a couple of months. In fact, the bookings for the international-spec bike have already commenced through KTM dealerships.

So, is the longer travel suspension actually better? Well, it depends on your skill level. We suggest you first take a test ride of the India-spec variant, see whether the seat height is manageable for your stature, and if you’re skilled enough and want an even more hardcore offroader, then you could wait for the upcoming variant.
