The battle of the retro-style bikes available in India

After much anticipation, Kawasaki has launched the W175 retro roadster in India at a rather premium price tag. But how does it compare with other retro-style bikes in its price segment like the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and the TVS Ronin?

As you can see from the table above there is a clear distinction in the engine displacement as well as the figures. Heck, the W175 boasts just about half the cubic capacity of the Hunter 350. And on the other hand, despite the higher capacity, the Hunter 350 produces less power than the Ronin, though it does make much more torque.

A thing of note is that all three bikes produce output figures that aren’t at all impressive considering their engine capacities. That said, a kerb weight of 159kg, means the TVS Ronin boasts the best power-to-weight ratio among the three bikes.

Kawasaki W175 Underpinnings

In terms of underpinnings and hardware, the TVS Ronin takes a clear win with USDs and discs at both ends and a fairly premium suspension setup. This should help the Ronin in being a better handler of the three. That said, the W175, even at the price point, does not get a disc at the rear, even as an option.

In terms of features, both the Kawasaki W175 and the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Retro get a simple semi-digital instrument console. The TVS Ronin, on the other hand, gets a fully digital instrument cluster with all-LED lighting, Bluetooth connectivity and USB charging.

The Ronin also comes with TVS SmartXonnect Bluetooth connectivity that displays notifications and allows you to accept or reject calls. It also features turn-by-turn navigation, voice and ride assist and a USB charger.

Despite the major differences in specifications and features, all three bikes fall in the same price range. That said, the Kawasaki W175 packs the least features and is also the smallest-capacity bike at the same price, which begs the question, does this pricing make sense?

Nevertheless, it is still the most affordable bike from Team Green in India. The Ronin and Hunter 350 go toe-to-toe in the value-for-money stakes, and you can head here to read more about that.
