Battle of the retro-style scooters

Honda recently updated the Scoopy in Indonesia, but how does it compare with our very own retro-style scooter, Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi, in India? Find out in detailed images.

In terms of appearance, the Honda Scoopy is absolutely retro, especially with its apron-mounted, oval-shaped headlight, which certainly makes it look unique.

The Yamaha Fascino 125, too, is quite the retro scooter. You get a diamond-shaped LED headlight,  flowing bodywork with a sweeping rear end.

Powering the Scoopy is the same reliable 109.51cc air-cooled engine found on the Activa 6G and Dio. However, the Indonesia-spec Scoopy produces 9PS and 9.5Nm, the Activa makes 7.79PS and 8.84Nm, and the Dio churns 7.76PS and 9Nm.

On the other hand, the Fascino 125 gets a bigger and more modern 125cc air-cooled hybrid motor, but sadly produces less power but more torque than the Scoopy  – 8.2PS and 10.3Nm.

Both scooters get similar underpinnings – telescopic fork and monoshock suspension setup, disc up front, and drum at the rear for braking.

While the Scoopy rolls on 12-inch wheels at both ends, the Fascino runs a 12/10 setup.

In terms of features, the Scoopy gets an LED projector headlight, keyless ignition system, a semi-digital instrument console, USB charger and a smart key system similar to Activa H-smart, making it pretty safe.

The Fascino features a digital console with Bluetooth connectivity. Using the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X app, you get access to the vehicle location, answer back, riding history, parking record, and the hazard lamp function.

Priced around Rs 1.17 lakh, the Scoopy is unlikely to debut in India; however, the Fascino 125 is available here with prices starting at Rs 77,100, ex-showroom Delhi.
