Volkswagen has teased the production-spec 2024 Tiguan with camouflage plastered on it. The upcoming premium SUV is in its final stages of testing and is expected to make its debut in the upcoming weeks. As with any generation update, the Tiguan will get a major design refresh and a whole host of new features that are a first for the nameplate.
The Tiguan gets a more macho looking front-end featuring a sleeker grille design that flanks the newly styled headlamps, which can be optioned with HD Matrix units. Like new age VWs, there should be an LED light bar spanning the width of the front-end. Below it is a large single-piece air dam that gives the front-end a dash of muscle.
The profile design is very Tiguan as it looks similar to the current model. However, bits like the newly styled alloys do give it a breath of fresh air. And by the looks of it, the shoulder lines are likely to be smoothed out instead of the sharp creases found in the current car. Sleeker LED tail lamps and a restyled bumper round off the overall design of the SUV.
It’s on the inside where things are groundbreaking as the Tiguan gets a brand new dashboard design. The basic design is very similar to the MK8 Golf, where it gets a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital driver’s display. However, the design around it is different with a layered dashboard splashed with plenty of gloss black plastics.
Volkswagen has also been criticised for its touch-only operation in its cabin and has changed the operation of certain features. So there’s a new rotary knob in the centre console, which can be used to change functions such as ambient lighting, and the gear lever now takes stage on the steering column like the brand’s ID. electric cars.
Apart from the usual creature comforts such as smartphone connectivity, a panoramic sunroof and ADAS, the Tiguan will also get a couple of new features. These include electronically controlled suspension and dampers to adjust stiffness and front seats with massaging, ventilation and heating.

Now, Volkswagen hasn’t revealed the updated powertrain options that will be offered with its premium SUV. But it has been confirmed that the Tiguan will get turbo-petrol (TSI), diesel (TDI), mild-hybrid turbo-petrol (eTSI), and plug-in hybrid (e-Hybrid) powertrain options. The last one has also been optimised to provide up to 100km of range on EV mode.
As we mentioned above, the new Tiguan is expected to make its debut in the coming weeks. And post its global introduction, the SUV is expected to make its way to our shores sometime in 2025. It will command a premium over the current model priced from Rs 34.7 lakh and will continue rivalling the Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross and Skoda Kodiaq.
