The Volkswagen Tiguan, which has always been a sophisticated and premium mid-size SUV, is now getting a sportier twist for the Indian market. Yes, the German marque has decided to spice things up with the Tiguan R-Line, a sportier rendition of the SUV that’s currently on sale. It will make its India debut in the early part of the second quarter of 2025, also introducing the new generation of the Tiguan, which can also be expected to follow. So, if you’re wondering how the newly flavoured Tiguan would fare out, here’s everything you need to know about it.
The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is essentially a sportier variant of the regular Tiguan and just features a few tweaks in terms of design. So, the regular new-gen Tiguan is very much similar with a curvier aesthetic that differentiates it from the R-Line.
At the front, the new Tiguan gets a broad bumper that includes integrated air intakes and some chrome inserts. The grille features a gloss black finish, and the LED headlights are sleekly integrated, with straight-lined DRLs placed above.
The side profile has body-coloured side skirts and 19-inch alloy wheels that can be had in three different styles. The wheel arches are kept subtle, and the door handles get a dual-tone mix of the body colour and black hue. You can see traditional door handles, too.
At the rear, the new-gen Tiguan features a roof spoiler and a distinctive bumper with trapezoidal exhaust outlets with a chrome finish. The three-pixel LED taillights have a connected light strip above, and it has a darkened effect. The Tiguan lettering is placed at the bottom end of the tailgate.
Inside, the new-gen Tiguan brings modest tweaks. The dashboard maintains a clean and functional design with soft-touch materials. It has a flat-bottomed four-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls. You see plentiful piano black finishes, contributing to a more upmarket experience.
As for features, expect certain updates to the current feature set seen in the Tiguan. It will have a 12.9-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, an 8-speaker audio system alongside the existing panoramic sunroof, a 3-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat and 30-colour ambient lighting.
Its safety suite will include six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS), hill assist, hill descent control and ADAS.
The new-gen Tiguan gets multiple powertrain options in the international markets, including a plug-in hybrid as well as diesel options, but in India, it is expected to continue with its familiar turbo-petrol engine option.

The India launch of the new-gen Volkswagen Tiguan is not confirmed as yet; however, with the R-Line being confirmed, we can surely expect the current Tiguan to also be updated to its new generation. It will certainly carry a premium over the regular Tiguan currently retailing at a starting price of Rs 38.16 lakh (ex-showroom).
On Indian shores, the Tiguan will continue to be a rival to the Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Kodiaq and Citroen C5 Aircross.
The Volkswagen Tiguan was not particularly a car catering to the mass market. With that in mind, the R-Line avatar could prove to be a good move from our German friends for the enthusiasts. However, the Tiguan in its vanilla avatar still fits the needs of premium and sophisticated buyers.
