The electric two-wheeler market in India has just seen a super premium electric scooter make an entry as the BMW CE 04 has been launched at Rs 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the electric scooter only Rs 1.05 lakh cheaper than the Ducati Monster SP! It will be available via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route and deliveries will start from September 2024 onwards.
The scooter looks very futuristic with its edgy and funky styling. The boxy design language along with the front apron integrated headlight and the huge front-end gives it a commanding road presence. The design of the bench seat makes it look like it is floating in the air. At the same time, the simple design makes it somewhat look similar to a park bench. The scooter gets a storage space underneath the seat that opens up from the side.
The BMW CE 04 gets a 8.9kWh capacity battery pack with a claimed range of 130km. It takes 4 hours and 20 minutes to charge the scooter from 0-100% with the standard 2.3W charger and 1 hour and 40 minutes with the optional 6.9kW quick charger. It gets a 15kW motor with a peak power output of 31kW and a top speed of 120kmph. According to BMW Motorrad, the electric scooter can accelerate from 0-50kmph in 2.6 seconds. The suspension setup consists of a telescopic fork and an off-set monoshock. Braking duties are handled by dual 265mm front disc brakes and a single 265mm rear disc brake. It gets a 120-section front and 160-section rear tyre setup with 15-inch wheels at both ends.

The scooter comes loaded with features and gets a 10.25-inch TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation. It gets all-LED lighting, three ride modes: Eco, Rain and Road along with a reverse mode and a USB-C charging port. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard while lean-sensitive ABS is available as optional. It gets traction control and Automatic Stability Control as standard while the manufacturer’s Dynamic Traction Control is available as optional. Other optional features include heated grips, a centre stand, anti-theft alarm system and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Now, with such a hefty price tag, the BMW CE 04 doesn’t have any rivals in India. It is quite a niche product in the market and probably an indicator how scooters could look in the future. People with very deep pockets are the only ones who’ll be able to afford this scooter. So, if you are one of them, then this is your chance to own something that’s very unique, even exclusive to a certain degree.
