The big question: Have the KTM genes been tamed?

350cc KTM 390 Duke: Likes & Dislikes

The 350cc KTM 390 Duke continues the same aggressive formula that made the 399cc KTM 390 Duke a benchmark in the streetfighter space, but with a smaller engine. And that change has reshaped its personality in more ways than one. After riding the new 350cc Duke, here are the things we adored and the things we despised about it:

Likes

1. Still One of the Sharpest Handlers in the Game

The biggest win remains untouched: the chassis. The lightweight frame, agile geometry, and WP fully adjustable suspension setup continue to make the Duke feel razor-sharp. Whether slicing through city traffic or attacking corners, the bike retains that signature flickability that riders love from KTM bikes.

2. More Refined and Easier to Live With

The new 349cc motor is noticeably smoother than the older 399cc engine. Vibrations are well controlled even at highway speeds, making long rides less tiring. In the city, too, the softer throttle response makes stop-and-go traffic easier to manage than on the more aggressive KTM 390 Duke R.

3. Feature-Rich and Still Great Value

The electronics package remains unchanged and still feels segment-leading. Features like cornering ABS, traction control, riding modes, cruise control, a quickshifter and a TFT console ensure the Duke feels thoroughly modern. Add to that KTM’s attempt to keep pricing in check after GST changes, and it becomes a more accessible package.

Dislikes

1. Noticeable Drop in Performance Punch

While the engine is refined, it has clearly lost the explosive midrange and urgency of the 399cc unit. Acceleration feels slower across the board, and overtakes now require more planning. Compared to the KTM 390 Duke R, the difference in real-world performance is hard to ignore.

2. Less Exciting at Mid-Range Rev Range

Between 3,000rpm and 5,000rpm, the engine feels flat, and the signature KTM aggression only kicks in higher up the rev range. This takes away some of the “Ready To Race” character that made the older Duke so thrilling to ride.

Verdict

The 2026 390 Duke is still a brilliant streetfighter, but it now leans more towards refinement and usability than raw excitement. For riders stepping up, it remains highly capable, just not as wild as the 390 Duke R. All said and done, we also rode the 350cc KTM 390 Adventure and compared it against the KTM 390 Adventure X.
