Tata has brought back one of its most iconic nameplates, the Sierra, and the new SUV has arrived with a retro exterior design that pays homage to the original 1991 Sierra, a premium cabin, and a feature list that attracts modern-day buyers. It has been positioned above the Curvv in Tata’s lineup, but its size, stance and equipment list put it close enough to challenge Tata’s own established favourite, the Harrier.
The Tata Harrier has long been a strong seller for Tata and has its own fan following and loyal customers who admire the car. The overlap in dimensions, features, and price brackets means many buyers can now cross-shop between the two. So, here’s how the new Sierra stacks up against the Harrier on paper
The Tata Sierra and Tata Harrier are segments apart, yet they will cater to a similar audience based on what both cars have to offer and their real-world presence.

The Sierra carries a boxy, upright stance, which makes it appear bigger than its direct rivals like the Creta, Grand Vitara, etc, while the Harrier sits as a big, wide car with a more confident and dominating road presence.

Since their dimensions overlap enough to feel comparable on the road, it makes sense to stack them up and see how they differ in size and overall stance.
Here is a detailed comparison of their size:
|
Parameter |
2025 Tata Sierra |
Tata Harrier |
|
Length |
4340 mm |
4605 mm (+265 mm) |
|
Width |
1841 mm |
1922 mm (+81 mm) |
|
Height |
1715 mm |
1718 mm (+3 mm) |
|
Wheelbase |
2730 mm |
2741 mm (+11 mm) |
|
Boot space |
622 litres (+177 litres) |
445 litres |
The Harrier is clearly the bigger of the two here in terms of dimensions, with a very similar height and wheelbase as compared to the Sierra. In terms of length and width, there is no denying the fact that Harrier belongs to a segment above the Sierra.

But if you consider the bootspace on offer, the Sierra is way ahead with 177 litres more space than the Harrier! Smaller in size, yet a very big boot, this shows how much Tata has thought through with the Sierra.

On the inside, the differences between the Sierra and Harrier are very noticeable. The Sierra gets a fresher, minimalistic dashboard layout, and taking the centre stage is a triple-screen layout with two 12.3-inch displays and a 10.25-inch driver's display, while the Harrier continues with a single 12.3-inch infotainment screen along with a 10.25-inch driver's display. Even in lower variants, the Sierra offers a more modern interface and a richer feature set.

Where the Harrier excels is in its size; with its wide dashboard and broader front seats, it is more suited for tall passengers.

Both cars come with premium features like a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, a Level-2 ADAS, 360-degree camera with front and rear sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, touch-based climate controls, ambient lighting, drive and terrain modes, wireless phone connectivity with the infotainment screen, connected car tech, and rear window sunshades.

The Harrier comes with a 10-speaker JBL sound system and gets 7 airbags, while the Sierra is offered with 6 airbags but gets a 12-speaker JBL Black sound system with a sound bar.

The Tata Sierra can be had with three engine options, which include two new petrol engines and a diesel engine. The NA petrol and Diesel engines get manual and automatic transmission options, while the turbo-petrol makes do with just an automatic gearbox. Here are the detailed specifications:
|
Sierra Engine Options |
1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol |
1.5-litre turbo petrol |
1.5-litre diesel |
|
Power (PS) |
106 PS |
160 PS |
118 PS |
|
Torque (Nm) |

|
Transmission |
6-speed manual (MT) & 7-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCA) |
6-speed torque converter automatic (AT) |
6-speed manual (MT) & 6-speed torque converter automatic (AT) |

The Tata Harrier, on the other hand, has been using a 2-litre diesel engine ever since its launch, with options of both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
It is slated to receive the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, similar to what is offered on the Sierra and should be launched sometime this week.
Here are the detailed specifications:
|
Harrier Engine Options |
1.5-litre turbo petrol (Yet To Be Launched) |
2.0-litre diesel |
|
Power (PS) |
160 PS |
170 PS |
|
Torque (Nm) |

350 Nm |
|

With this new engine, the Harrier’s portfolio finally has a wider range of powertrain options, catering to multiple types of buyers.
The 2025 Tata Sierra is priced from Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level Smart+ variant, while the prices for the top-end Accomplished variant have still not been announced. That being said, the most expensive variant of the Sierra currently is the Adventure Plus Diesel Automatic, which is priced at Rs 18.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Prices for the Tata Harrier, however, start at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and range till Rs 25.24 lakh (ex-showroom). We feel that the introduction of a petrol engine might get the Harrier’s starting price by a little margin.

Currently, the Sierra is clearly a cheaper option of the two SUVs.
|
Model |
Price (ex-showroom) |
|
Tata Sierra |
Rs 11.49 - 18.49 lakh (Adventure+ Diesel AT) |
|
Tata Harrier |
Rs 13.99 - 25.24 lakh |
We can say that the Sierra has the advantage of being the latest model in the market to have such premium features compared to the Harrier, which sets them apart. People buying a Curvv had to stretch a lot if they wanted something more premium, but the Sierra fills that gap now.

The Tata Sierra and Harrier both share the same family badge, but they overlap in many core areas. The Sierra feels like Tata’s step forward in design and cabin experience, whereas the Harrier remains the solid, dependable choice that is already well-understood by buyers. On Paper, the differences in dimensions, features and powertrains may seem subtle, but in the real world, they create two distinct ownership experiences. Your decision, at the end of the day, comes down to whether you prioritise the Sierra’s freshness and appeal or the Harrier’s established ruggedness and practicality.
