BMW India launched the i5 LWB in the Indian market, which has a primary focus on the rear-seat experience in the luxury sedan space. Being the only electric luxury sedan in the segment, we took a drive out on this beautiful sedan and find out what are the things that impressed us the most.
So, let’s dive deeper into this German luxury sedan!
Rear Seat Is Really Spacious!
Entering the rear seat of the BMW i5 LWB, you are greeted with a luxurious cabin, two individual seats with great under-thigh support, ample legroom compared to its standard wheelbase model, and plenty of tech to make the rear occupants feel comfortable and special.

The rear seats offer features such as cushioned headrests, USB Type-C charge ports on the back of the front seats, individual climate zones for the perfect weather inside and a foldable centre armrest with two cup holders and even a wireless phone charging slot.

Comfortable Ride Quality
During our road test, the i5 LWB felt superbly stable over bad patches of the highways, had a plush driving experience and also over some of the sharper bumps, it does manage to reduce the shocks that will translate into the cabin.

Overall, in the competition of the luxury sedan space, the BMW i5 LWB does offer quite a balance of handling as well as a comfortable drive and will be a very good highway machine for long tours as well.
Effortless & Silent EV Performance
Being an electric vehicle, the i5 LWB does offer an AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System) to alert pedestrians whenever this sedan is switched ON and moving. While sitting inside the car, because of the adaptive rear-axle air suspension, the ride at the back is slightly stiff but does stay quite stable at triple-digit speeds.

With the 81.6 kWh battery pack, it surges ahead almost immediately with 410 Nm available on tap. The i5 LWB is definitely a very good highway cruiser which offers a good amount of range as well.
Great Range For A Luxury Sedan
With the BMW i5 LWB, along with the extra long space inside the cabin, this luxury sedan offers an impressive range of up to 669 km. With such range, you are basically giving away range anxiety, as it can easily perform the Mumbai to Goa journey with only a single top-up charge needed in a real-world scenario.

During our tests, the BMW i5 LWB did manage to maintain its battery capacity quite a while, even though we were flooring this luxurious sedan out on the highway!
Tech-laden Premium Cabin
The luxury sedans are sometimes even a technology showcase of what new trends are going on, and with the i5 LWB, it offers a plethora of features and equipment with it. For starters, you get a massive 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, BMW’s own voice assistant, which you can operate multiple features as well.

Coming to the rear, it has individual climate zones for each passenger, customisable ambient lighting, a panoramic glass roof with ambient lighting in it, front seat ventilated and powered, and even massagers along with a memory function. The cabin is equipped with plenty of soft-touch premium materials and leatherette seat upholstery, which adds to this opulent experience.

ZigSays…
The BMW i5 LWB surely impresses us with its brisk electric performance, excellent driving range, and super luxurious interiors, along with plenty of knee room at the back. With the i5 LWB being the only electric sedan in its segment, it will have the first-mover advantage in its class and currently rivals similar-priced ICE sedans such as the Mercedes E-Class and the Audi A6.
